Hi all - this just dropped a few days ago. At $30, it's tempting to buy and try, out of curiosity:

New Waves Nx Reduction Plugin

Wow. So now we can record near airports and construction zones with air conditioning and boisterous children in the background. Will wonders never cease?

here in the gear section i'm kind of an idiot. so - "1st grade" it for me. where does this "plug in" and what do i have to have to use it? i edit audio in adobe audition & video in davinci resolve studio 17.

i see this as a "meh" for in-studio recording --- but in audio for video, recorded in the field --- i find it pretty damned interesting.

It looks like this is mainly geared towards post-production, especially dialogue cleanup for film/TV/Movies. It works in "real time" within the DAW on a dialogue track, without rendering as the Waves NS1 plugin would.

I'm curious as to how this would work in VO production . If it means uprooting an already established routine of processing audio then yeah, not worth the hassle.

I'm an Adobe Audition guy myself and really like the on-board tools that Audition has. Not sure if I would use this, but someone may find it useful. Smile

that's exactly where it would be useful to me -- does this just plug into audition the way a LUT plugs into a video editor?

I'd love to see what the vastly superior George (Whittam) might add to the conversation.

I've not had much luck with Waves noise reduction software in the past. Way too many artifacts when it finally zones in on the noise profile. I wonder if his new one solves some of those problems.

I've seen their video demos and I have to say that it looks impressive...although they do use very extreme cases of noise to put the plugin through its paces. In those scenarios there are some noticeable artifacts.

I would think that in a home VO studio setting there wouldn't be that much of an extreme noise situation to deal with (i.e. - recording with a hairdryer or blender in the booth), so it could probably take care of the typical small background stuff without leaving artifacts.

I agree that George Whittam's review would be very enlightening! cool

I was hopeful, so I downloaded the demo...
It worked nowhere near as well as implied in their videos.
Doesn't even work as well at the Waves NS1 noise reduction which you can pick up for $35.
Certainly doesn't work as well as my old RX6 noise reduction.

Maybe in the video they're really using the Pro Clarity VX, which is more expensive?
