I find the worst "tyrannical positivity" offenders also do CrossFit. They are the ones who actually believe you can walk to the moon if you try hard enough and have the right attitude.

You see it so often...
"My elearning rate is around thirty cents per word... they offered me five cents per word. I feel insulted by this derisory offer. I have written to them in an attempt to educate them as to why this is so far below "market rates."

I'm no mathematician, but I believe receiving $450 beats not getting $500 because of your principles, and getting $450 three times, because you're happy to work with the client and you give them good service, also beats not getting $500 one time.

And to think I failed calculus. Pah.

I only have three rates:

I think people have the biggest problem with number three. Some offers are simply not worth using as a starting point. If someone is offering 10~15% of your usual fee, then they're never going to get up beyond the 75% (or whatever your threshold happens to be that day). People butt their head against the principle that the work is "getting away" or that they're "losing a job" (it was never theirs to lose) and they have to blame someone else... and an uneducated or ignorant client is the perfect villain. They're uncomfortable with it being their own business decision.
