being from the part of the country where the ohio & mississippi meet, i've seen a lot of tornados. we get 'em every year --- in 1982 an F4 plowed through - devastating. a few years ago we had one take out 14 trees in our yard - but barely touched the house. one 4" pine branch went through the garage roof like a rocket.
i used to LOVE storms when i was on the radio. breaking coverage, that sort of thing.
oh! and i was almost killed by a falling instacart machine once! _________________ "i know philip banks": todd ellis

Todd, you sure are in that active part of the country! 14 trees? WOW! I can't get over how 'random', yet also 'precise' they can be (as you also mentioned - "barely touched the house"). This one pulled the back wall of our house away from the 2nd floor by 6 inches. Then, about 10 feet away from that wall, it ripped our steel gazebo up and gone (just left screws where the feet used to be in our deck). However, it never touched the BBQ which was on wheels, between those two targets - 10 feet apart! Other houses were much worse though - some are totally gone! I laughed at my wife though.. As we drove through the area and saw insulation blown and stuck to everything, she quite seriously said, "It looks like a chicken exploded!" |

Todd, I meant to ask - "instacart machine"? My mind immediately thought of 'cart machine', but think you meant something else? |

maybe not the proper name --- big rack with lots of cart carousels in it --- tornado blew the "mobile remote broadcast studio/travel trailer" against the wall of the building, knocking the thing over like paul bunyon.
... and moe, you know how i love the fancy-schmancy. _________________ "i know philip banks": todd ellis

Todd, I never knew what they were called (but that sounds descriptive enough - 'autocart', I like that). I worked at a station that had a bank of them too - but not in a mobile unit and able to topple them over on someone. That had to be scary! |

And here I am with images of Instacart shoppers wedged into a carousel being blown around.
I've had too much pandemic food delivery. |
