On the outer limits of the voiceover business motivational quotes are considered knowledge, they're not! Were they effective people would follow the "Woot GFI" with stories of business success or job security that would make a Unicorn bow as a sign of respect.
What are people being taught? If your breath smells take a breath mint, if your home smells spray air freshener. No! No! No! Clean your home, clean your teeth. Clean the "Woot awesome" from your work life then do some work!
A few years ago, someone posted an article on Twitter from their magazine "7 ways to double your income voice over". I read it and concluded that he may be on to something but couldn't quite see how they'd work. Good point for discussion so I replied "Can you give examples of how they worked?" I expected, "Well Philip, Dave did this and got signed with an agent resulting in .." that type of thing.
Nope.
"Isn't it obvious?"
No! Which is why I asked and more importantly to get people to read the article and open the discussion.
My smiley face emoticon included response? "You've really got to stop doing that!"
Obviously his reply was good humoured and the discussion opened up with over 9,000 success stories flooding in.
Or did he block me? No, surely not.
My favourite quote from a comedy character.
"They said go for it, Shadwell! I went for it and it had all gone!" |

Every time I watch one of those “get rich buying and selling houses” infomercials on the teevee, which is rarely now coz once you’ve seen one you’ve see them all, I wonder if they’re so good at that why are they spending valuable time yapping on 2 a.m. shows? Why don’t they show how many homes they’ve purchased and sold? Why don’t they show the actual buying and selling pitches they use on real people? Or show happy seminar graduates that sound believable?
Oh that’s it …. Magicians don’t really show how the do their tricks.

But for only $499 we'll show how to make nearly $500 vanish.
Amaze your friends! |

I love it when this stuff goes all meta.
There's a well know get-rich-quick snake-oil coach (let's call him Baron Auditorium) who upped his game... and in addition to trying to lure gullible newcomers, he started to pitch to established talent who wanted to become a coach and market themselves like him.
I smiled... then I sighed. Heavily. _________________ Bish a.k.a. Bish

A number of years back, there used to be a real estate mogul on late night TV who, at the time, was most famous for having his name on a Tower on 5th Avenue in NY, selling some sort of secret to getting rich. And I would think, "If you're so rich and successful, why do you need me to send you three easy payments of $39.95?" _________________ Lee Gordon, O.A.V.

I'm glad you outed Viscount Hungarian State Opera House in Budapest as he is,
un petit gîte près de Teignmouth plein de mules mortes, excuse my French. |

Every generation has its Tom Vu because the numbers game - unfortunately - works. Tom Vu is only the earliest example I can think of, there were probably many before him. |
