Took the advice in the title and threw out my ISDN and installed COVID. Tried a test but as so few people have it used a Bridging service, Herpes Simplex 2.
Hoorah! Our first session went viral! |

Yep, kinda meh.
Wow, the whole movie online. It’s a decent little Western if you like them. It was the last major film shot in the Old Tucson sets before it all burned down. I’m in there for brief flashes in the first several minutes. When they take the photo I’m two people to the right of the sheriff with black vest and full beard.

Annnnnnnd... Covid-19 wins.
ISDN has been disconnected.
My very last client that was connecting to my ISDN box via ipDTL, called me for a session yesterday on my cell phone. As the story was relayed, the producers let their boss know they were essentially using ipDTL as a phone patch. After each session, I would send the audio file to them because the quality was so much better. The boss then cancelled ipDTL altogether.
This morning, I asked the studio I most frequently connected with prior to the shutdown if it was cool to disconnect. They said "Yeah, we're never going back." So, there you have it. A living virus killed ISDN.
End of story. Good night. Sweet dreams. |

I wonder if I should consider dropping ISDN on my ipDTL account. 90% of what I do is via patch, and the rest is SC. _________________ Jack Daniel

Last I checked, ipDTL does have one-day $20 ISDN rental. So, if you need it in a pinch it's still available. |

It’s hard to say goodbye to an important, reliable piece of equipment that’s been a valuable part of your life. They had to pry the buggy whip from my hands as I kicked and screamed all those years ago.

A good point, Bruce--we develop feelings for tools that have served us well. _________________ Jack Daniel

As did the studios, who were the driving force behind keeping the technology going. But since the pandemic forced many of them to switch to alternatives (mostly Source Connect), I suspect fewer and fewer of them will remain married to ISDN going forward. _________________ Lee Gordon, O.A.V.

It's an older photo, but the sentiment is still accurate.
Real photo from 2017 of my old Prima that couldn't be repaired. My boy and I had to go to the waste transit station (the dump) with a bunch of junk to drop off and the light was streaming through the windows in such a way, I had to take the photo. Staged? No. Lucky lighting? Yep. |

I think it was less feelings and more inertia in the case of studios. _________________ Jack Daniel

Oh, ISDN ... we just can't go on like this. We've just ... grown apart. You've stayed in the past and I ... I've moved on ...
