Hey folks, I'm looking for a compressor plugin that meets the following criteria. I may be crazy, but if it exists, this is the place to ask.

What I need:

* VST 3
* Capable of being adjusted to extremely fast attack and release, with no latency on release especially. It needs to be able to slam on and off like a light switch.
* Highly sensitive threshold- adjustable to -80 dB or lower if possible.
* Sidechain input.

I'm willing to pay for one, but if it does cost money, it would need a fully functioning demo version.

Thanks!

A compressor that fast - why not look into a limiter? Like the Waves L3? I believe they have a VST version.

I'll check into that, thanks Anthony. A limiter would potentially work but I need one that supports sidechaining and the stock one with my DAW does not.

Universal Audio has a number of compressor options that emulate real world stuff. I love the LA2A and the 1176.

I use a Universal Audio plug-ins on nearly everything I produce.

They do. I have it. Don't know what DAW you are using but I can sidechain it in Audition 3.0

I just love how I have to buy hardware to get a trial of software I may not want.

Edit: I use Cubase 5 for my DAW.

I can promise that you would never regret having UAD plugins. Even with the hardware purchase. They run great with Cubase (and Nuendo) , which is what I use them with. Worth every penny Corey. Smile

Well, I figured I'd be getting an iLok at some point, so it's not that big a deal. Smile

Sadly, the Waves plugins won't work in Cubase 64-bit, which is kind of annoying. I'm not going to get a DSP board for the UAD plugins just now, so I'm back to looking for a good VST3 plugin. Smile

Voxengo Elephant: http://www.voxengo.com/product/elephant/

Great limiter, only $120.

I like it but sadly, no side-chain support so it won't work for my particular needs right now. I like it in general though. Thank you for pointing it out. Smile

Most Waves plugins support sidechaining, but sorry to hear it won't work for your setup. It's insane how 64-bit isn't widely supported in *and* out of the pro audio world.

Is there any particular reason you're using the x64 build of Cubase? Unless you're addressing extremely large instrument sets, or mixing many (100+) tracks, there's little benefit to the x64 build, and the net loss is a lot of trouble with legacy plugs (such as Waves, UAD, etc.).

That said, if you *must* use x64, the built-in Compressor plug in Cubase 5/6 is actually quite decent, supports sidechaining to the best of my knowledge, and you already own it Smile Another option is the Dynamics plug, which has both a compressor, gate, and limiter.

Your options expand if you decide to run x86. I can also recommend the UAD plugs - my wife's vocal chain includes the UAD LA2A, the Neve 1081 EQ, the Precision De-esser, and the Precision Limiter, pretty much in that order. The plugs sound amazing, but if you have side-chaining needs, there's some Waves plugs that do it. There's also some routing tricks (which I haven't done myself) to do sidechaining in Cubase.
