having a 35 page contract that must be downloaded, signed, scanned and uploaded. EVERY page must be uploaded, not just the 4 signatory pages.

Here is a pet peeve from the engineering side of things.

When a talent is asked to read for level and they do not read the copy the way they intend to read it when the actual recording begins.

Not knowing is one thing, but intentionally saving the actual delivery for recording makes trying to get levels pointless.

My $.02

Diane,

I wish it were confined to the NOOBs. I've actually read this so called "technique" of saving your actual read for recording in a VO book. Gasp

I can assure you that you wouldn't read anything like that in mine.

Agreeing to a 5 minutes script that's actually 9 minutes of copy. Then ya have to revisit the rates quoted "conversation" with the client.

Sometimes I'll ask, "Did you read this aloud and time it too?"

The client sends me copy with a line that has a question mark at the end.

I read accordingly.

'Sends it back saying...this is more of a challenge than a question. Read again. (But the line still has a question mark at the end.)

I read with a challenge, but rise my voice at the end (like a question...duh!)

Client sends back. says this is not a question! (question mark now removed).

OK....that helps!

Getting a Mandarin translation of a read that is supposed to be timed to the English version of a video. (Mandarin is extremely verbose, and almost always 20-30% of the English).
Even more annoying when the client's "solution" is telling me to "just leave out some words" (on a powerpoint style summary...)

This is along similar lines of an observation I posted on Facebook the other day: "It is sad and disillusioning when those with little experience in a given field are in a position of authority for a company in that field."

If the client doesn't care enough to do at least a passable job, it makes you wonder why they sought their position in the first place. They should do everyone involved a favor and stay home in bed.

I never realized how many jobs seem to be available from gum machines.

I just don't get it. The company must have spent a lot of money working out the copy for localized marketing. So to have someone randomly crop it is bizarre! We CAN do it... we offer localization services... BUT those are paid services and involve a lot of communication with the powers that be and an understanding of their ideas and direction.

Note what I said about powerpoint style; these were pretty much imperative sentences, so practically no pronouns to cut out.
