I wrote a rather extensive review of my experience at APAC last Thursday. You can read it here on my blog:

Yep, that's right, I now have a blog, joining the ranks of VO bloggers to make a better world Smile

In a nutshell, I'm glad I went for this first experience, but I think there's a lot of improvements they could make. I don't think it's something I'd attend every year.

I'd love to hear what any other attendees thought - was it worth the time and money?

I think it's hit or miss. Last year's panel discussions were much richer in content than this year's. Audiobook producers sat in the audience of a number of sessions last year and were more involved in discussions. Grover Gardner attended one session this year but I think that was it. I was especially disappointed in the productivity session as they had been saying how narration is moving from production studios to home studios and then proceeded to talk only about production studios - which pertains mainly to the New York market.

I'm not sorry I went. I enjoyed chatting with other narrators and some producers. I feel these things tend to rev up my motor so to speak and get me moving where I might have been a bit lackadaisical. I'll definitely be producing new demos, for instance.

Adam:

Nice wrapup of the event. My impressions are similar to yours. I also consider myself pretty weak at networking, and I'm sure we're not alone there. For me, the best way to get better is to keep going to events like this and working on it. I plan to do that.

It was great to meet you and Elaine and some other narrators and producers.

And I feel like the audition for Scott Brick's contest was well worth the effort. When else will I get the chance to read with producers from Random House, etc., sitting directly across from me?

I had a great time -- I loved all the networking opportunities. It was a relaxed atmosphere (good food, too!) I liked the loosely structured panels and opportunities to ask questions. I made a few new contacts, and since I live in the NYC metro area, I find it easier to follow up with the locals.
