I need to make an mp3 of the audio from one of the Hannah Montana commercials I did the vo for. I tried importing the video into ProTools, which worked, I think, but I can't seem to separate the audio. I'm a complete numbskull when it comes to this stuff, and I will readily admit that.
Anyone have any tips? THANK YOU in advance! _________________ Caryn Clark... The Hip Chick Voice!

Do you have Quicktime Pro?
You can export the audio with that. If you don't, I do, and you can send a QT or MP4 movie to me and I'll send you the audio. _________________ DBCooperVO.com

I think QuickTime Pro is about $30 and well worth having just for this reason. _________________ Skype: globalvoiceover

This is what I do on a Windows machine with a Creative Labs sound card (no idea if it works for other setups). In the audio mixer there's an input called "What U Hear." I select that and mute all other inputs. Then I open my audio recording software (in my case, Cool Edit) and start recording. Then I play the source video in whatever player it normally runs in. When it's done, I save the audio file in Cool Edit and return all my input setting to their previous state and trim or otherwise edit my new audio file. _________________ Lee Gordon, O.A.V.

DB is the bomb-a-rama for doing this for me!
I don't have a Mac; I'm one of those reall uncool, kinda chunky and ever so formal trying to be cool PC people. I rarely (never) get a request like this... though I suppose it would really be handy if I were going to create a new demo and needed to lift audio off the video. Lee, I'll check on my PC and see if I can do that. Quicktime files always play on this PC with a delay and they are distorted (I think b/c of ProTools... I can't watch/hear streams either), so I'm not sure if it would work, but it's worth a shot for future requests.
THANKS!! You all are the bestest. _________________ Caryn Clark... The Hip Chick Voice!

I've been able to open MP4 files in Audacity, which ignores the video and gives you the audio track that you can export in whatever audio format you need. I've also used Fission, which is a lossless MP3/AAC editor for the Mac which avoids re-encoding the track. |

In ProTools (if you've already imported the video) at the top menu click "Movie" then "Import Audio From Current Movie..."
If you have NOT imported video yet, then instead choose "Import Audio From Other Movie..."

i ran across this today while looking for something else & gave it a test run.
http://www.squared5.com/
not only will it convert/compress & downsample video in a number of formats, (think maximizing video for the web) it will separate audio from video ... and it's FREE! _________________ "i know philip banks": todd ellis
