|
|
Hi, I have a client in need of a CBT narration which I'm estimating will amount to roughly 45 finished minutes. Not especially high-tech, just instructional for employees, re: using an online inter-company resource.
My common narration fare tends to be slightly shorter promotional/image video prod., and while I've done many CBTs over the years could use some advice on how I might want to quote this given length and end-usage. Unfortunately I have no precise word-count available. Any ballpark ideas on methodology for estimating rate from those here who do more of this sort of thing, greatly appreciated. Initial notion is to base it on a couple on a union Day-Rate times two i.e., figuring about 8 hours cumulative session time.
Thoughts? Suggestions?
Thanks much!

first question: have you asked the client the budget?
i'd prolly look at a per word rate - maybe 28 - 35 cents/per
at 150 wpm you're looking at roughly 6700 words, right?
so ... $2,000 give or take? _________________ "i know philip banks": todd ellis

(Note to self: Have Todd negotiate for your next narration project...)
I'd be looking at $30 per finished minute, or $1,350, especially if you have to edit it into dozens of files. However, 8 hours seems awfully long even for that. If you're facing a budget crunch and you only have to send one or two cleaned up files you might consider $20 per minute (or $50 per page) for a total of $900. Union scale is about $400 for the first hour in studio and roughly half rate every hour after that, so if it took you two hours to voice you might only be billing $600, but your editing time is an additional matter.

I generally price that stuff at $250 for the first 5 minutes and $100 for each additional 5 minutes so that job would be $1050. _________________ Lee Gordon, O.A.V.

Please pardon my ignorance, but what does 'prolly' mean? Can't find it in the dictionary. _________________ Mike

Slanginess for "probably".
Like "bleeb" means "believe".

Ah...thanks Mike. I've never heard that term before- I've always just called them e-learning. I actually do a lot of this kind of narration. Funny I use a totally different formula than Todd, but came out with roughly the same final figure.
I always charge per page. A page = 250 words. (so get the script into a document form that gives you a word count)
Based on Todd's 6,700 word estimate
6,700 divided by 250= 26.8 paages , or 27 (I always round UP for billing)
27 X $75 per page (my fee for LONG narrations) = $2025 _________________ Moe Egan
