|
|
Wondering if anyone who has experience can help me with this one:
What's a good estimate for audio book recording time? I've heard the 1.5 - 2 minutes per page estimate, but usually in reference to e-learning type copy. A quick number crunching on Amazon with pages and audio book length reveal a number a lot closer to 2 minutes per page.
224 page book = 7.5 hrs
Should I multiply 7.5 by 2? 3..?...to get a rough estimate of total hours recording? (this one happens to be non-fiction, if that makes a difference)
Then, drum role please....editing time, same question!
Thanks! _________________ Adam

In my experience, you can read about 11 250-word pages an hour.
However that parses out for your book. Most book pages aren't formatted into neat, 250-word blocs, so you'd need an overall word count to start with to estimate recording time. _________________ DBCooperVO.com

Don't forget editing. For every one hour recorded you will spend approximately two hours editing. Then there is post prodcution...

A service my son Eric offers, though he's not currently doing so for Kara. He does quite a bit of work for me, but there's always room for some more. _________________ Be well,

I agree - I would LOVE to job out the editing...but with the amount this particular client is paying it wouldn't make financial sense. _________________ Adam

I believe Eric does it for free, just for the experience. You know, for something on his resume. It's just listening and deleting talking.
Isn't that right? _________________ Try to imagine a world where there is no such thing as hypothetical situations.

This place rocks! Thank you DB and Frank for your great, informative answers. I just got an email and had to answer the very same question for a potential client, as Adam did.
Thanks to you guys I was able to give an intelligent answer (I hope!) that didn't back me into a corner. ha, ha!

And, if Eric ever becomes inundated, I can handle the overflow. I love editing; from roughly trimmed to finely manicured voice tracks.
But... I don't do Windows! _________________ Mike

To un-threadjack....
If a book has 300 words per page and the author reads at about 175 word per minute, then you'll get the 7.5 hour total recording time.
Assuming you're doing all the post including editing and sweetening, then you'll want to multiply that number by at least 4. _________________ Jeff
