Like Patrick before me and Jeff before him, I was laid off today. In fact my entire division was shut down. Fortunately we were given good severance packages for years of service. So I'm set for the summer and now have the chance to focus studying, practicing and doing this wonderful business full time without worrying about the mortgage for several months. The surreal part was I almost quit 4 weeks ago but my guardian angel Bob Souer talked me in off the ledge and said stick it out if I wasn't ready, and I wasn't so I didn't. Obviously there was another plan for me. So I'm taking a few days to get my head together and then will be ready for the sacks of money to appear at my doorstep. Life is interesting. Thanks for all the support this fabulous place offers. I wouldn't be half as relaxed about all this going on if it wasn't for all I've learned here and the preparations I've made. And I know when I start freaking out at the end of the summer, this place will be here to keep me focused and grounded. Thanks folks, you are the best group of professionals anyone could hope to be associated with. _________________ Pam Tierney

Sometimes we're not "really living" until we get out of our comfort zone.
I quit a very secure, good paying postition because I felt i was living
GROUNDHOG DAY. It was a great decision.
I have strong feeling you will be just fine. _________________ www.asapaudio.com |

Pam,
I'm no angel, guardian or any other kind, but you're welcome for the help then or anytime. Like Bill, I'm confident that you're going to shine brightly as you shuffle off the coils of corporate entanglements that have held you for so long. _________________ Be well,

Me too Pam! I have no doubt you'll land on your feet, and be just fine! It's these challenges in life that make us who we are, right? _________________ Caryn Clark... The Hip Chick Voice!

When you're kicked out onto the streets you can either stare at you shoes or look up at the sky. As no one ever said "Your shoes are the limit" you're in a good place.
Happy to help, any way I can but you don't need it. |

You men are all the same Kafer...(sorry)
Pam,
Great news that you have the safety net of a good severance package. You got the talent, you got the brains, now you have the motivation. Welcome to the full time VO pool. Many of us here leaned how to swim the same way- by getting thrown into the deep end.
Makes me think of a story I heard once about a hunting dog chasing a rabbit. By all rites, the dog should have caught the rabbit, but after ten minutes or so, the dog gave up and went home to rest on the porch - the rabbit was long gone by then, safe and far away from the hunter. Why? The dog was just chasing the rabbit for fun, the rabbit was running for his life.
Run Pammy Run!! (no doubt you'll kiss some major VO booty). _________________ Moe Egan

Good luck, Pam. One strange thing I've discovered since becoming unemployed from full time work just a bit more than 8 years ago, is that sense of almost relief when you're on your own, knowing that your fate is truly in your hands. Talk of being "laid off" doesn't hit you quite as hard as before because it doesn't really apply to you any more. True, you have to bust your hump to see the rewards, but they are your rewards.
You'll be fine. There are some pretty fine cheerleaders here. |

I love that story, Moe. So very true. I'll never forget when I was a college theater and English major, with an education certification track, a good friend who did not go for the ed certfication told me, "As long as you have something to fall back on, that's what you'll do -- fall back." He's been a very successful actor for over 30 years now.
Best to you, Pam. I'm sure this will be the start of something big. _________________ Diane
