|
|
We all probably know the one to which I am refering. On another chatty site some Voice Overists were discussing How bad, how ill-used they felt, how the fabric of their universe was in peril because of the TERRIBLE way people who run the particular pay to play site behave. This was my response.
Here's a number for you to get. How many JOBS did the site concerned secure for the 4000 subscribers in March 2009?
The answer will be "well that's commerically confidential information ...." . Really? 4000 x $300 = $1,200,000. How much the business is generating for itself is NOT confidential yet how much it's earning the people who support it IS?
I have no problem with the site mentioned in this thread nor the people who run it, they're just working to make a living. Here's the real problem, the VO people who believe that $100, $200, $300 or even $1,000 is the solution to the problem of not enough work for everybody. WAKE UP!!!
Here is your affirmation for today - "In order to dream I need to be asleep, in order to LIVE the dream I need to be AWAKE. WAKE UP (INSERT YOUR NAME)"
How do you move your career to the next level? Hire a venue, get a few VO people to come along to cover your costs and the cost of paying me $1500 plus expenses to come over and I'll tell you. Just name the the place and date, I'll be there.
I don't expect the "class" will happen. Probably better it doesn't as there will be no mic time - You won't like that. You'll get a new perspective - You won't like that. There'll be a reality check - You won't like that. I'll tell you, not ASK you, to do things that terrify you - You won't like that. For once I'm expecting people to pay for guidance that may just make a difference - Mmmmmmmm, I crossed the line there didn't I?

Philip,
Hardly seems like Satanic counsel to me, but what do I know about such things? _________________ Be well,

I prefer to look at the site traffic. That's a great indicator of how well they're doing. There are two P2P sites which have been pinging me as of late, and frankly one gets less traffic than my own website does (and my site hasn't even been up a month yet), the other does less than 1500 hits per month.
Not quite as much traffic as I'd expect for a site advertising "thousands of voice talent cast every month".
In my experience, numbers don't lie nearly as much as people do. _________________ Voiceovers by Gregory Houser

Phillip, you owe me a new keyboard. I actually L-O-L'd and snorted.
Remember when hiring Phillip to do a class you won't have to book too much time - his speech will probably go something like this: "Just Do It"! and the class is over. Brevity works.
