I know we've had conversations on this a few times now, however, I'm looking for a shotgun for video that will also double for V/O.

My main mic is a MA-201... I don't see any reason to change that...

But the need to get a video mic is in the forefront and I've got the opportunity to pick up a 415 (Not the 416) for a good price... about the same as a good used ME 66/67 combo.

Price being the same would you have a preference? Why?

Justin,

I know a couple of folks on the VO-BB like the 415 better than the 416 for VO work. I haven't used one myself, so can't comment directly.

If you are current with T power or AB power (they are the same) and your gear will handle this powering method then you are good to go. Some outboard field mixers have provision to power T/AB or Phantom.

Do you research and figurer out if your gear is Phantom powered and does it have and opting for T/AB. Remember this, in the field sometimes a Shot Gun is fine and some time you need a Hyper Cardioid, or a Lav. I think that Phantom has for the most part replace T / AB power.

All that being said, I saw where some folk think the 415 has a richer low end.
