I just built some portable soundproofing walls using 3/4" PVC pipe and acoustic foam. Foam Factory has great foam at a very reasonable price. I paid about $40 for a 74" X 52" piece. Shipping is free when you spend over $50. Available in colors too.

Dave & Bill... I definitely check out the websites and consider those "portable" suggestions.

It's Done at Last! Yesterday I finished my booth-oid. PVC pipe frame hung with furnies (cant afford acoustic foam right now...what the heck, it's better than nothing). 4X4 interior, 6 1/2' tall. Not great but makes a world of difference from those bare walls. Gets mighty stuffy in there though...gotta step out for air every 10 minutes or so.

yeah, that's a problem isn't it? Can't very well put a fan in there, defeats the purpose.

If you have a digital camera, I for one would love to see a few pictures.

Same goes for your "walls" Bill.

Yes pics would be cool, I've used a couple of boom mic stands as a T with sleeping bags draped over...

yet another link... to save for when there's some extra cash...

Here's something else to think about. I just upgraded my mic from a Gefell M930 (which is a good mic) to a Soundelux U195 (which is a better mic). Better means more sensitive, which means it picks up much more noise in the vocal booth, which I thought was fairly isolated from low frequency vibration. The booth is pretty small, so other than processing the tracks with a expansion/gate, I'm stumped. Any ideas?

That's pretty discouraging news, Kitzie. Would it violate the standards of purism to do a bit of a low EQ cut during recording - if your equipment allows for it?

Hart, sorry I don't have a digital camera. But I did hook up a camcorder to an old Snappy. LOL Here the foam wall I use.

Here's the back.

It's pretty straight forward. $40 worth of foam. Cut it in half and get the PVC for $10. Makes two walls. Smile

Lightweight, portable, big enough to do some damage. I like them a lot. Thanks for going to all the trouble to post pics. What on earth is a Snappy?!?

Mary, I love the sound of the mic, so I'm not above doing whatever it takes. A low cut filter takes care of most of the sound, I'm still experimenting with the expander/gate. I did run into something this week with an ISDN session. The engineer on the other end wondered what was up with the noise (I had the mic in "fat" mode, so the low frequency stuff was really evident), and I told him he could eliminate it with a low cut filter. He was reluctant to do that, so I switched the mic to the "normal" mode and that took care of it. The "normal" mode is brighter, but doesn't have the luscious lows and mids of the "fat" mode.

I took a coupla pix, but I'm having trouble posting 'em. I can't upload 'em to the board, and I'm an sbcyahoo subscriber and the only place I can find to post pix is in their "briefcase" thing and it didnt work when I tried to link to it. *sigh*... I feel like such a luddite........ I'll keep trying....

PJ - why not just upload the file to an FTP site and provide a link? That would be an easy way to "git it done". Photobucket is good, find 'em at www.photobucket.com and there are probably others that would work just fine, too.

Dave, Yes! A fellow Snappy owner.

Hart, the Snappy was before digital cameras that allowed people to import pictures to their computer for their web pages. You plug your camporder to the input and the Snappy into one of your computer ports.

I do need to invest in a decent digital camera. The problem is that I don't ever go anywhere or do anything. LOL

Bill, thanks for the explanation. I've never owned a camcorder. Maybe one day.
