Got a very distinctive voice--and wish you didn’t?

Are you a grown woman...but when people hear you on the phone they ask to speak with your mom, because you sound like a kid? Have people told you your voice sounds really sexy...which doesn’t go over that well on business conference calls? Do you sound like a woman, even though you’re a guy? Or maybe people are always telling you that you sound unhappy, even when you feel cheerful? If you have a distinctive voice, and it’s not reflecting the “you” you really are, would you like to change it? We’re looking for people who want voice makeovers...if that’s you, we are a national television show and we want to hear your story!
I've never cared for the sound of my own voice, and I have at times been mistaken for a woman on the phone and in the fast food drive-thru.

But I've also been hired for and won talent shows doing impressions of female celebrities.

No voice makeover for me, thanks. I'm glad I used my distinctive voice to my advantage, and I could name a number of very successful voiceover talents who've made a career out of their distinctive voice as well.

I love when telemarketers ask for my mom...I have a whole skit I go into...

(said in my best 5 year old voice)

"My mom isn't home right now, she left me ALLL alone...and even though she said not to put the cat in the oven...I'm GONNA...HAHAHAH"

Amazing how fast they hang up and don't call back!

[For anyone that might wonder, I am a cat person and would never, ever harm my 'kids']

Because I can be as annoying as the telemarketeers, this one time when I was fiddling with my SFX- library, I staged something to pay them back... here goes (or went.. actually, I grew up... a little bit)

I ask if the person can call me back immediately on my other incoming line so that the main incoming line wouldn't be occupied when clients call. So they do, I pickup and ask them if they have a moment and can hold the line, for something needs to be taken care of 'right now'... so, then I activate the digital answering machine which does nothing but playing 5 different varieties of "I'll be with you in a moment". Some of them sounded like I was in the middle of a nasty conversation with a (staged) 'employee', as if I were having conversations with both the caller (who is of lesser importance at that time) and the "employee". The conversation is mumbled, and sounds like somebody puts his hand over the phone, so nothing can be understood. Inoccent

The time in between messages gets longer after each "You're still holding right? Thanks... I'll be right with you, sorry for the wait!"-message. The gaps between my voice are filled with ambient noise (sfx) of a pretty busy office and some conversation sounds. Mind you... the audio is 11 minutes long. If they still hold (it has happened!!) after 11 minutes, I pickup again and ask them what it is they're selling right after apologising again for the wait "you probably overheard the conversation I had with the person that I will have to let go later today, so you understand that I HAD to do this first. They always agree with me hehehe! I interrupt whatever story they're shooting at me, and start asking questions about my line of business. After one more minute I say: "Do you recognize THIS sound?" and I keep silent. If they break the silence and say something like "I don't hear anything" or "what sound?", I reply: "THIS ONE..." and hang up.

I never could take another call after that one, for by then my stomach hurts from laughing so hard.

(I know... "evil" sometimes was my middle name)

Edo, I think I love you. That is my kind of joke! Kara's is great, too, but I can't do that voice. I just say, in my best telephony voice, "I need to let you know this call is being recorded for quality assurance purposes." They usually hang up.
