Recently, I completely gutted and rebuilt my studio ( a bit inspired by soundgun and Joe Cip's studio, which by the way is amazing--you rock soundgun). After routing and rewiring, addiing longer cables, etc., I developed a digital noise that I could hear in my headphones, especially when I moved the mouse. My Protools audio was clean, but the noise was there in whatever I did. I tried everything, then suddenly (cue dramatic music) I noticed the 48V LED light on the MBox was lit...I looked up at my dbx 286A processor, and the 48V phantom power was also lit. I shut off the MBox 48V phantom power and the noise disappeared...so that's why they use the word phantom.
Just thought I'd share. |

Interesting! Amazing the myriad sources of noise in an Mbox. I know Deirdre discovered that by ground lifting her LCD monitor connected to the Powerbook, her noise issues disappeared. Bottom line, try EVERYTHING. And always make sure that you only use Phantom power on your mic preamp, no where else. _________________ If it sounds good, it is good.
