|
|
I had a client ask me recently what converters are in the CEntrance MicPort Pro, so I called and asked. They use the AKM-4528 chip.
What other well known gear use these converters, you ask?
AKM4528 converters are also used in the Echo Mia and M-Audio Audiophile 2496, the Fostex D2424LV multitrack recorder, and the RME Multliface. _________________ If it sounds good, it is good.

Thanks for the info. I use the Echo AudioFire2 which has the AK4620A chip (same as found in the AudioFire4). Yet another reason to order this fine piece of gear. _________________ Skype: globalvoiceover

Yep, and I think it's also used in the Echo Indigo as well (need to check).
The MicPort Pro is the only XLR-USB interface I like at this moment in time. Granted, it doesn't have the same sound as anything else I use, but it's clean, clear, and a really nice tool for VO on the go. _________________ Voiceovers by Gregory Houser

One thing I have found is that while they say no driver is needed, I had sketchy results without their new Universal Driver, in the form of the now-and-then garbled audio (some sessions came out very garbled & distorted, while others were fine), now-and-again popping in the audio (in the wave itself), etc.
However, once I installed the driver, it has been rock solid (on a few different computers), and for that reason I still think this is the winner for portable XLR-USB. It gets a little hot of course, but a small tradeoff for that much quality in that small a space. The first couple of test sessions in my new booth were done with the MicPortPro since I didn't yet have all the cables wired in for the permanent installation. I cut a client project on it and it was solid, quiet, clean, and sounded great. Nice unit! _________________ Chris Mezzolesta, Voice Talent
