Talk about your low-paying work! You can become the voice of the Washington DC subway system, participating in several studio recording sessions a year, reading dozens of announcements to be read over the PA system, and get paid....

Absolutely nothing! --- We have a winner! For details go to:

Hah! One of my pals sent me the link to the article about it without knowing the compensation was NIL O RAMA.

We decided that the best thing to do would be to plant subliminal messages throughout the audio.

You mean something in the background like "go ahead...touch the third rail...it tickles"?

I was hoping it was open to creative ideas like:

"All Arab visitors are required to unwrap and rewrap their turbans before entering the train."

"Friends of Jack Abramoff please meet in the club car."

"Members of Congress are required to keep their hands in their own pockets at all times."

"Hello, I'm Michael Brown, your conductor for this run."

Yeah, that's definitely some terrific contest--Working for free, now that's a prize worth winning! Like dangling a stick without the proverbial carrot.

Shame on the DC Metro!!

Lets break this down:

You have to have the ablility to record your audition.
You have to provide three diffrent styles of presentation.

Just with that the avarage citizen is out.

Now, their hope is to save money, but if they happen to get lucky and find someone willing (obviously not a pro); how much money will they waste in studio time? How many takes would have to be made? Who is going to take the fall when the budget goes way beyond what they would have normally spent?

and send my audition CD in NOW!

"There is no cash or other prize or compensation for this contest."

Reminds of a coffee mug I had back in my younger days:
"Anything worth doing is worth doing for money."

I hope they post the winning "voice"... excuse me... "The Door Closing Voice 2006"... on a website. It may rank (literally) as one of the greatest boondoggles to come out of Washington DC.

Sheesh.

At least when I record my audiotextbooks for free I get the warm fuzzy of knowing a charitable organization is distributing it, and that some blind kid is learning with my help. Somehow, the idea giving the DC transit system a freebie just ain't gettin' my heartstrings a-twangin'......

Even if they did pay, you couldn't understand the message. Their PA system is awful! Sticking out Tongue I believe Charlie Brown's teacher can be better understood! Shocked

I have a money spinning idea. Every time a VO-BB member posts a moan about a "job" not worth having make them pay $5 into a special paypal account. At end of the year we use the money raised to refloat the Mexican economy.

I often wonder if the voice in Walt Disney World's monorail system, gets residuals or if it was a one-time payment. Or, from what I've heard about Disney...if he was paid.

"Caution. The doors are about to close."

To be fair we are ALL so hard done by, exploited, abused and neglected they probably charged him.

I look forward to the day when I no longer have to work in this revolting business. The people holding my wife and 9 children keep saying that one more session will do it, but they lie.

The deep depression, loneliness, abject poverty, starvation and torture to which I am subjected on a daily basis all in the name of voice overs leads me to think the thoughts I have thunk....Pass the Kleenex someone.
