I was told my porn actor name should be the first name of someone you admire and the second name taken from a physical attribute.

At school Neil Critchell was always able to get the girls so I admired him so watch out for me in a porn film credited as Neil Slight Ear Infection.

Katherine Robards here...sounds more like a serious actress than a porn star.

When I started in radio, my fiance's last name (soon to be mine) sounded like "a radio name" because of the alliteration. So that's what I used.

If I were on the air today, I'd still use that name, even though I've remarried & changed my name.

I use my real name for V/O. When I get a fully produced demo, I'll put up a website & finally "go public". Till then, I finally have a current photo...hopefully it is showing up with this post. I am no longer the "gal without a face" as I believe Banksey put it. Smile

What's funny is the thought that some people (not here) believe that by giving themselves a name like Tom Sills or Lipsy Purr they'll energise their careers and ensure long term success. Getting anywhere by being a good voice over is a ridiculous notion that'll get you nowhere.

You need to spend as much time as possible on branding, printing, business cards, networking, web site optimisation and the all important regular attending classes on how to teach Wilderbeest to knit.

Callum the senior Wildebeest is not entering into the spirit of the classes. He was badly gored by an insurance salesman on the Ngorongoro plains in 1987 and it has left him with issues and a whole of life policy. Having said that my approach to pauses in TV promotions has improved thanks to all the Wildebeest dung in my booth.

Hmm...pet + street I don't think so... middle name + street maybe... Eddie Dorwood has possibilities (for a guy, I suppose any name with "Wood" in it is a good porn name), but Skippy Dorwood just doesn't cut it...

But seriously folks...lets not flame straw men by suggesting that anyone here believes a name is more important than vocal quality and skill. That's bullshit and you know it; everyone here knows what's important. But little marketing elements *DO* make a big difference, especially when you're starting out. While I do charity-type work, being memorable and marketable is not an issue, but when doing real marketing to paying customers, every little detail counts.

I see your 4p's concept and agree that these would be the cornerstone of a marketing plan. But a wee voice keeps whispering that having a wishy-washy name would have a negative effect. Actors change their names all the time to make it more flashy and memorable. Dierdre named herself after an infamous rogue criminal who became a sort of anarchist folk hero; it's a name someone will hear once and remember. Maybe I'm attributing too much importance to it and it really makes no difference. I just need to make my decision before I buy my domain next month and set my site up; if I can do better than patjohnsonvoices.com I should decide soon.

It's like that damned tattoo I never got because I could never decide where I wanted it....I pick the stupidest things to stress over, I tell ya...
