Is this "gear" and has this been covered?

My studio/office (PC) is 2 miles from my home (laptop). I know there are programs whereby I can access my desktop from my laptop, and all or most of the data therein.

Looking for recommendations from those who use an office tool like I describe or can confidently recommend one or a few.

If your computers are on the same network, you can use the built-in Remote Desktop application. If you're not on the same network, I've heard GotoMyPC.com has a solution, though I've never used it personally.

I you want syncing, that's one technology. If you want remote access to your computer so you can actually see the desktop from your office, that's another. I use Logmein.com for remote desktop services. They have a basic version that is totally free (been using for 5 years now, and it is STILL free).
I remotely administer computers for clients all over the country this way, and it works great. It is cross platform as well, so you can control a Mac from a Windows machine, and vise versa.

That's the first thing that came to my mind too Jeff...but I haven't used it either myself (heard cool things about it though).

www.GoToMyPC.com is priced at $14.95/month or $179.40/year.

http://showmypc.com/hosting/hosting-prices.html priced at: Free; $14.95, $19.00. $38.00/month.

http://www.rhubcom.com/ You buy it, you own it. PC/Mac

There are others, but I don't know which to trust so i will not recommend them.

Look closely at rhubcom.com, seems interesting.

Diane,

Count me as another happy user of the free version of LogMeIn.com. Great service. I've used it from as far as away as Manila and as close as from my kids' computer downstairs.
