Well, that is an interesting thought. You are going to find some unique problems in compatibility (HiZ, Lo Z) as the old RTR's had impedance mismatches up the wazoo, but, if you insist on trying it - consider placing the salvaged unit in a steel mesh box with lots of air circulation. And, do not put anything on or near the box. isolate the box as far from your audio gear as possible, and you might have a nice toy to play with. Few controls, but nice to learn and play with.
