I was directed to a blog yesterday. The story was that a voice over/producer intended to make a CD for the children in a childrens hospital. With the help of other Voice Overs this would do something for those children in the childrens hospital who would not be able to get home for Christmas due to the extent of their illness. .......... Go on, admit it, you're Wooting already aren't you? Welcome to the world of the officially old and Voice Over obsessed, to say nothing of being highly self-indulgent.

I decided that I would do nothing to contribute to this project mainly because I'm pretty sure torturing children ,let alone sick children, is in direct contravention of article 4, 13 and 26 of the Geneva Convention.

Christmas is about company, cuddles, comic books, candy, cartoons and jolity. It is not about Dave J Saddo, imaging voice for Twerp FM subjecting toddlers to his rendition of "I saw Momma a kissin Santy Claws although between you and I I'm pretty sure it was Mr Powell my school principle so that means straight A's for me next year".

Voice Overs should be banned from Children's Hospitals unless they have their mouths held shut with gaffer tape and their arms are full of presents.

"Look it's just my way of giving back". No it isn't, it's still about you!

Here's an idea - get together with a few Voices and buy some glove puppets then go and do a live puppet show. Trust me, the children will love you forever and so will the Mums and Dads.

Dear Mother- er, Father Superior:

The concept you are either not grasping or are otherwise ignoring is that the guy (who I don’t know personally or professionally) is just trying to create something using his professional skills and those of others to help take kids’ minds off the fact that they are sick in the hospital on Christmas. No child should ever be sick, let alone sick in a hospital and some of those kids will be in for a long time or worse, will never leave.

Maybe its only for a few minutes and maybe it won’t work at all. But he’s giving it a shot (for the 6th time) to create some audio plays, for lack of a better term, to maybe brighten a child’s holiday. He’s not charging anything as far as I know and his CD’s go to hospitals across the country.

Why condemn a guy for doing that?

Certainly we should all love to bring presents and personal wishes and puppet show to sick children in hospitals every day of the year, not just Christmas. But doing that and also individually solving world hunger isn’t within all our means. So he tries this CD and ask others who also can’t solve all the worlds problem to contribute if they choose to.

Like in gift giving, it’s the thought that counts. You don’t have to participate or otherwise praise the guy, but even in a jovial manner, don’t bury him.

Signed with hugs and kisses,

Sincerely,

Captain Noe Itall
Operator 1st Class, B.S. Detector Unit

I was burying us not him and I am one of us. I can think of nothing more serious or tragic than children in hosptial at any time and under any circumstances. The children and the parents probably have in abundance what the average voice over lacks in equal measure, perspective and the ability to see the ridiculous.
