|

Greetings esteemed colleagues. Trying to work up a rate quote(sans my agent's input this wknd) for a set of four :30 spots with usage for "up to 2 wks" (politicals) with placement on several targeted cable systems - Chicago Mkt.
I would normally reference aftra scale and to my way of looking at this, it wouldn't be unreasonable to start with the session fee per-spot(600-something??) as a benchmark and go from there....
Sorry i don't get 'round here to offer up more than rate-advice-questions
lately.
I promise to contribute more often from my Vast Store of Wisdom(' ')
(hey - sounds like a good name for a pricey Mall Shoppe).
btw, anybody have any general thoughts abt. the "future of VO" blurb from Alex at '123'? I certainly take issue with his take on Rates.
Cheers to All,

Jeff, perhaps it is due to the short nature of the run. AFTRA rates (not for Class A national spots) are for unlimited use for 13 weeks. _________________ Playing for a living...

They will continue to let voice seekers on there with low rates and they will still take the money of people who will accept those low rates.
So it's kinda like "living in the future".

Right, but isn't that a minimum? In other words, unlimited use up to 13 weeks? So a 2 week run would fall within that. _________________ Jeff

Alex's vision: everyone will be busy being sub-par 24/7 for sub-par pay.
His vision is sub-par. _________________ Skype: globalvoiceover

Is this "Alex" message something anyone can see?
Not everyone knows about it. _________________ DBCooperVO.com

Well, in theory, yes. But when a spot is made and played in one city for 1 or 2 weekends, then my personal opinion is that the rate for a 13-week buy may be out of some people's price range and a little short sighted. When I was on the board of AFTRA and attending conferences, we - those of us in the smaller markets (and yes, Chicago is one of the big three markets) worked to get a short-term rate. It encouraged the smaller retailer who wanted to advertise their weekend sales to hire professional talent. It really was a win-win.
Now, if it was a big time national spot that aired for one day during a hugely highly rated program, then no one would even blink about the rate for the talent. _________________ Playing for a living...

Hi Jeff, Hi Connie, yes, actually that variable is kind of the tough call on this particular equation - I'd typically not think twice about full session fee for a 13-wk cycle in for top-3 mkt TV but this is definitely a short-run flight.
Deirdre, re: the "Alex" thing- i only knew of it 'cuz i got this automated email from '123' telling me that Alex was blogging his view of the "future of VO" - on whatever their blog site is. I guess that's the one they replaced the "Savvy" site with - after getting posts that didn't agree with their business philosophy.. Dunno the whole story - i don't go there much.
Regards,
