As someone who has posted a number of auditions at V123 and listened to and read through many hundreds of responses, KISS is the phrase that pays. I literally listen to the first 3 to 10 seconds of 75% of the demos and move on. If they're not right for the job, why stick around? Then if they're appropriate enough to listen to the whole audition, then I'll read what they've written. And you won't believe the epic tales that some people will write...makes me think some of them are wackos or anal retentives and that working with them will be a challenge.
You should write with the assumption that you are both experienced business people and you know why you're here on the website together. Answer what they've asked for and give them only what they need to know beyond that and you'll look like a pro.

| One of the most interesting things about clients who come direct as opposed to via an agent is that when they ask how much I charge they are really trying to see if I am able to guess what they are prepared to pay. My response is usually to say that if they have a budget I will do my best to fit in but if it's not enough I will say so and I will then tell them my minimum session fee. If you want to haggle go to a Turkish market and buy a carpet. |

Haggling is the pits.
I just spent the better portion of the day in a haggle session with Westwood One.
The Metro Traffic contract ended yesterday and the company is behaving badly. REALLY badly, but first they had to jerk us around for a couple of hours.
I was there for 4 hours in negotiations with management and talent and it wasn't over when I had to leave.
We may be on strike next week.
