I am slowing moving files and software over to my new business tower and tried to MOVE a folder containing my FTP software over from the old compter to the Network folder so that I could pick it up over at the new computer. It has disappeared.

Any ideas where it might have ended up - and how I might look for the little bugger. I use Windows XP.

In retrospect I probably should have Copied it to the Network folder, but I didn't. Is it gone or just gone hiding?

I guess try the search feature and enter the old folder name. Is it still on the old system? If all else fails copy to CD and transfer.
Course, you may have to reinstall the programs so you could probably go to the online site and download.

Hope you find it.

Did you look in the Install and Remove Software section of the old system to see if the software is still installed?

The software is still installed and working on the old computer. It is the folder that contained the downloaded set up software. I had a separate folder for downloaded software on my desktop - and this was a sub-folder which I was trying to MOVE to my Network folder to share with the new computer tower.

I have looked in all the existing folders where the program files have been installed to see if I can find a setup file, but to no avail. It is in that missing folder.

I guess I'll just have to spring for a new version of WS-FTP Pro. I like the way it works. Well, let's say I am familiar with the way it works.

Connie,

you know if you call the company support line they can give you your software key.

Just download a new copy and use the key. There's no need to purchase a new copy.

BTW: love WS_FTP, It's an awesome tool.

Tried that - my copy is so old they don't have a record of my Order Number anymore. They don't recognize my email address at this point. And I am pretty sure that it wasn't THAT long ago! I've had the same email address since 1996. The date on my order was the end of 2004.

I'm such a whiner!

I think I'll call Microsoft to see if they can figure it out. I still have a few weeks left of support for my new Office 2007.

In a pinch you might want to try the free version of AceFTP3. I've had pretty good success with it and haven't felt a need to upgrade to the "Pro" version.

Connie, another good (and free) FTP solution is FileZilla.
http://sourceforge.net/projects/filezilla/

As to the issue of "where did my folder go?" What do you mean by "network folder" are you referring to 'My Network Places' or some other folder? Where exactly where you trying to put it to copy it over? If I know where, I may be better able to help.

I'll look into those ftp options.

Yes Mandy - My Network Places - into the shared folder for my Main Tower...tried to move it there and it has disappeared.

Connie,

You've probably thought of this all ready, but sometimes when I'm moving something I'll accidentally drop whatever it is into a different folder than I thought I was aiming for. Have you checked any of the sub-folders or adjacent folders?

(edited to fix typo)

Connie, I'm just so darn annoyed for you! Wish I could figure it out. Even told my tech guy (ok, it's my hubby but he's always dealing with stuff like this). He said w/out seeing the computer he has no idea. He uses some sort of program to look remotely at people's 'puters all the time.

Oh, it's probably too late but did you try to 'undo' the move?
