Is a Digidesign Mbox supposed to show up as an input device in the Mac's System Preferences Sound Control Panel? _________________ DBCooperVO.com

Well I'll be darned.
Mine doesn't! System profiler recognizes it as a USB audio device, but it's not in the list in the Sound pane.
Is yours an Mbox 1 or Mbox 2? _________________ DBCooperVO.com

Mine's an Mbox 1, but I wouldn't think it should make a difference _________________ DBCooperVO.com

What Mac OS are you on? I have a Mac Pro OS X 10.4.9. _________________ Diane

My Powerbook is on 10.4.2 because I'm using PT 6.9.2.
My G5 is on 10.4.11 and it didn't show up there either.
The danged DUC is in read-only mode while they upgrade their servers, or I'd be asking over there as well. _________________ DBCooperVO.com

Just got word that my Core Audio must be messed up— I'll have to see how to straighten that puppy out. _________________ DBCooperVO.com

I know this sounds silly, but try launching GarageBand. Apparently it's engineered to scan the system and fix any weirdness related to sound every time it's launched. It has cleared up problems for me before, though not the specific one you're describing. |

Dierdre, it might be that you are using PT 6.9.2 and the Core Audio drivers that allow the Mac to communicate directly with your Mbox weren't included at that point, or not fully developed. There is a standalone driver but you can't install it because it will interfere with Pro Tools. I don't blame you at all for sticking with 6.9 as I find it much more stable than 7. It seems almost immune to Mac OS updates. _________________ If it sounds good, it is good.

I have the Core Audio drivers, they were just popping up all the danged time, so I disabled them.
I'll see what happens if I re-install 'em.
Thank you all so much for your help! _________________ DBCooperVO.com

Both my HD and my LE Mbox2 rigs are running under 7.4 and haven't had any mishaps so far. Things do appear more stable on the Macs though. Been changing back and forth between PC's, laptops and Dual PowerMac G5's and will be testing on a Macbook Pro somewhere next week as well. And the latter runs on OS-X5.4 Leopard. |

I just updated to a MacBook Pro with OS X 10.5.4 last month and have been running the latest PT LE 7.4 with no problem. My Mbox 2 Mini does show up in System Preferences as both an input and output sound device. It is as smooth as butter baby!

knock on wood I just updated my PT to 7.4 with Leopard and it launched without a misshap on the first try.
Of course I have now just doomed myself to failure with each future attempt. _________________ Pam Tierney

Glad to hear of these good experiences, since I have been putting off upgrading. _________________ Diane
