Hi Everyone,

I have a super problem! A client will be recording with me tomorrow by phone and afterwards I'm to send him the recording as a wave file.

The thing is another totally different client asked for the same thing today and when I tried to send it my e-mail said the file was to large and couldn't send it.

The client tomorrow doesn't sound as patient as the one above. So can anyone tell me how I can fix my problem ASAP please????

Hi there,

You will probably need to use a service such as yousendit.com

I personally have the Online File Folder thru GoDaddy, but I do believe that yousendit.com offers a basic service for free.

Yes Mary, .wav files are HUGE (no matter how short they are!)

You may also want to .zip the file up using Winzip or a similar program to make it smaller.

Does the client have an FTP site you can upload it to?
In which case you'll need an FTP program (WSFTP or any free FTP software will do for that)

Hope this helps.

L.

Lizden,

My client did mention something about FTP, what does that stand for and can you recommend a service I could use? Perhaps I'm supposed to upload the file instead of e-mailing it.

And thanks to all of you who are up late helping me out here!!

did they "mention something about it" or did they give you instructions? They'll need to provide an ftp address like ftp, myaddress, com plus a login and password. If you're on windows, you don't need an ftp client, you can do it through Windows.

Jeffrey,

There were instructions about using an FTP which I'll get my clarification for in the morning.

I do ue windows, but I haven't a clue as to what I can do regarding my situation.

Can you help with that step by step or such?

How does everyone else send wave files successfully?

You guys are soooooo awesome. Thank you, thank you for this advice.

Caryn's suggestion of yousendit or something similar is probably your best bet at least for now. You upload the file, send the client a link and they download from there. There's usually a 500MB to 1GB limit, but they vary. Here are a couple of links:

http://www.megaupload.com/
http://www.largefilesasap.com/
http://www.quicksharing.com/
http://rapidshare.com/ (200MB limit per file)

I used YouSendIt a couple of times just today. You can send files up to 100MB for free (one at a time).

Can't beat that price! You can send larger files, but it costs.

FTP on windows can be super easy.

1. Go to Start>Run> type in the ftp address your client gives you.
2. A dialog box will appear asking for a username and password. Type those in
3. Now you've got a window into their ftp site that looks exactly the same as a window on your computer. You may need to navigate to a certain folder, but this is the same as navigating folders on your computer.
5. Simply drag and drop the file into the ftp window and let it do it's thing.

Then you're done.

There are other, better, faster ftp clients, but I'd start with this one to get the job done and get familiar with what it is.

Yup. "You Send It" works great, and given your timeframe, is probably the best and easiest...and so do Jeff's instructions about ftp.
I use an online storage site for large client files and created a login, password and folder just for them at drivehq.com. I upload the files and send the client the link with download instructions.

There's also a cool free utility they have available so you can upload multiple files up to as much space as you choose to buy for a reasonable price. Think I bought the 5 GB annual package.

Setting up your own ftp site is the best route. Also, you can create a zip file and download it to your own website creating a link such as this: www. yourname.com/newclient.zip Then send the link to your client for download. There is no middleman, it's not searchable, you are in control of the file, and you can immediately delete the file after download.
