In March I posted the tale of my trip to be the voice of a new TV game show "This Time Tomorrow". It was a full non-broadcast pilot. If the suits liked it then it would go into production fairly quickly. For me it was another day, another dollar. As it turned out my approach was the right one.

Tonight on BBC1, networked to the nation "The Time Tomorrow" your host Tess Daly. The voice of the show? No idea, it isn't me that's for sure.

Since my day out at the expense of the BBC I've done 311 voice sessions, most of which had my name on them so had the Producer of This Time Tomorrow decided to use me how exactly did I propose to find the time for 7 hours travel and 10-12 hour studio days?

If I discover another voice got a gig out of this series I'll let you know.

Also on BBC1 tonight is The National Lottery Show and they're using the regular voice for that show for This Time Tomorrow - Alan Dedicoat.

Well, your voice was the proof of concept - the show wouldn't have happened without you. And listen - Alan is just copying your read...

The whole point in the pilot was to discover what worked and what didn't. I am certain that I was never really an option for the series as Alan Dedicoat is synonymous with the National Lottery broadcasts on Saturday night, using his voice makes perfect sense as the full programme title is National Lottery : This time tomorrow. I was, at best a rank outsider for the series.

Had an offer been made to me my heart would've said yes but my brain would've been screaming loud and clear "NO!" For the job to make commercial sense to me would've put my fee outside the programme budget.

The only thing with which I have a problem is the lack of communication. Neither Debbie the producer, Jo the Executive Producer nor Sue the Production manager saw fit to tell me what was happening.

Yeah - that's exactly what I meant - must have left of the correct smiley face to indicate subtle humor.

Got the humour, wasn't responding directly to your post was merely expanding on what I'd already written. Ooops! I just remembered that the subject matter is British so no one cares.

Joe Cipriano, great consonant sounds, wadyoo guys think? Particularly like the F in Lottery TV show job.

"Philip, there's no F in Lottery TV show job"

"I know! THAT'S THE POINT OF THIS THREAD!"

Mr. Banks,
As consulation there is a job listed on V321 today as "Game Show Host". Pays two Franklins.

That should make you feel better, eh?

People who are into this kind of thing say that some planet or other has been in retrograde, which means people's communication skills have been rather poor during these past couple of months.

My example in this current chain of discussion: I was in line to do a PBS documentary narration. Two months ago the producer said "you're our choice...we'll have a finished script to you in a couple of weeks." I check after a couple of weeks and "we're still working on it". A couple of months pass and I visit their website and there's some retired football player as the host and you can go see early screenings of the show in various places. I sent a friendly email saying I'm glad they found someone, and please keep me in mind for the future. The producer was effusive with his apologies and excuses for the change, but still.....

(sigh)

By the way Philip - Liz and I love you. We established that at our lunch today in New Paltz with Ron Levine. And for those of you interested - New Paltz is the home of the Terwilliger homestead.

Yes - they are in the camera - I will have to find the right cable - connect it to my mom's computer - blah blah blah - Liz - are you in any better position to post the pic. (I actually have one of Liz and Ron looking at a bright cherry red MAC laptop - trying to see if the New Paltz Diner had wi-fi - it didn't.)

Don't worry Phil....you're still the bestest ever!

I got a call on my mobly the other day re a v-o job, had a little chat and then the lady said, ok we'll send you an email.

I'm still waiting.... ha, ha! Laugh

but that's the way these things go... they'll email when they email. Had another nibble about an animation series gig, still waiting on that too (actually not really!)--these things can get delayed, cancelled, whatever...

Keep smiling!

Cheers all!
