Hey folks,
Bob posted a comment in Melissa's laptop thread about flakiness in WinXP SP3...Bob, if you have a minute, would you mind elaborating on what that means in your experience?
I have SP3 running on my DAW with my E-MU 1616m (PCI) and Adobe Audition 2 and haven't had any issues.
But I figure if there are known issues, it might be nice to centralize them if people have direct experience with it. _________________ Lou Zucaro

Lou,
I subscribe to a newsletter called Windows Secrets, published by Brian Livingston. ( http://windowssecrets.com/ ) For the last couple of months they've outlined numerous issues people have encountered with SP3 for WinXP including many users who go into a reboot loop after they've installed the service pack. This has been especially true for users with AMD processors.
Until those issues and similar quirks are worked out, I'm not going to install SP3. There's nothing in the service pack that is a deal breaker for me. All of the critical security issues are available separately.
I hope that helps answer your questions. _________________ Be well,

I get the same newsletter & am holding off on SP3 as well. If I remember correctly, they also mentioned folks using Norton Anti Virus as having the continual rebooting problems. _________________ Mary |

The guy at the place that's fixing my computer told me SP3 does not play well with anything M-Audio. He said right after the release his phone started ringing off the hook. |

I installed SP3 on my DAW running AA 2.0. No problems here so far. This is on a Mac Mini.
For those running XP on an Apple, be sure to upgrade your BootCamp or SP3 won't install. You must have version 2.1.
Like Bob mentioned though, I have heard many stories about the "reboot loop" after installation of SP3. Proceed with caution like any other upgrade/patch. _________________ Try to imagine a world where there is no such thing as hypothetical situations.
