Bravo Mr. D! Bravo!!!
What you said really hits home as I for one, have been remiss in doing my own brand of marketing (due in no small part to some health problems which have knocked me for a loop).
Your comments are inspiring.
Thank you for your insight.

well said, mr. d
riding on your emotional coat-tails, i read the specifics of your efforts in that email you sent to friends this morning and did likewise. for what it's worth, i sent inquiries to four or five places...two of the ones you had mentioned. no idea if they'll even be interested, but it's more than i've done for myself in a long time.
thank you for the inspiration.
taking your observation a step further was a little more uncomfortable: i look around this house of ours and think, "man, if we were renting from ourselves we'd have evicted our sorry butts YEARS ago!"
now see what you've started?
in all seriousness, very very well done, sir. _________________ rowell gormon

Excellent post Donovan!!!!!!!!!! LOVE IT!! And, hits home as I've spent the past week really focusing on marketing my new demos. Just spent the afternoon putting labels and stamps on hundreds of postcards. However, I'm not always so ambitious. My husband has been known to give me the exact same reminder your wife gave you.
And, congrats on the new agents!!! May you book to your heart's content! _________________ Caryn Clark... The Hip Chick Voice!

Hey, Donovan. Can I pay you to promote me?
Just kidding...just kidding. Thanks for the wake up call. It's so easy to get lazy with self promotion. But as things are slowing down, I've taken a first step by compiling elements for updated demos and meeting with my website guy regarding updates there.
Baby steps... |

Thank you VERY much, Donovan! Very inspiring indeed. I've been taking some steps to kick-start my own VO efforts (including the long-ago-promised-but-not-yet-delivered VO Database site), and reading your thoughts gave me another boost. Congrats on the representation, and best wishes for continued success! _________________ Justin S. Barrett

Donovan, Thanks for the words of wisdom and congratulations on the success of your efforts. Although you were also wise to supervise the workers in your house. My father supervised contractors on several houses he had built and he said that if he didn't go to the sights every day many things would not have been done correctly.

Thanks from me too Donavan. You're so right! Lately, I've not had the internet at home because we're switching providers. so I've had to go to the library to send out auditions, etc.
We can use the library for 1 hour for free, and then have to pay for the next hour. Anyway, the point is, it's incredible how focused I've become when I've got that time limit over my head. I plan what I'm going to do, I make a list of what I need to take with me to accomplish my tasks, etc., I even make a list reminding me to take my memory stick out of the computer and log out correctly.
i must take this feeling of complete focus with me, when I'm once again doing my work from home. i feel i'll accomplish a lot more and go a lot farther faster as a result! Yayyy!!!

Yeah, for some reason, if you're not around, many contractors will do less than the minimum and expect payment in full.
My parents have a half-finished patio sitting on their property (for about 4-5 years now) due to their lack of oversight.

Donovan, excellent wisdom! Have you been spying on my newly tiled floor & messy desk? I'm learning first hand that home renovation is an excellent procrastination device. As is weeding out the vinyl & downloading tunes.
