i'll post the "after" when it gets back as well as an a/b comparison.

Do you record with that or is it just a timeless treasure?

i DID record with it - at one time - but the ribbon has stretched (i think) a little and it has lost some of it's "oomph" - i am really looking forward to how it will sound after clarence has his way with it.

I know that it's hard to give up a piece of history like that, even if but for a short time.

No worries... it'll be back home with you in no time at all Wink

Can't wait to see the finished product. I use the RCA all the time. Nice and smooth. I am considering sending mine in for some "cosmetic" help.

for the folks that use ENAK.

are those guys good at finding mics for sale as well?

I'm trying to track down a "skunk" in good condition, and they're not exactly the first thing that comes to mind when speaking of ribbons.

I served in the Air Force in Thailand for a couple of years during the Vietnam War and was a DJ with the American Forces Thailand Network (AFRTS).
We had two RCA 77DXs at each of our seven satellite facilities. I loved them and always wondered what became of them when the war ended and we left the country.

Listen to me and my 77 in 1972

Thanks for reminiscing with me.

That's a fact. I found one for about $3200 a few years back that looked new. Apparently the original owner was an RCA engineer who bought it, but it pretty much stayed in the case.

Sounded like a dream too. I own ribbon mics, but I don't normally use them for VO because my voice just doesn't sound as nice on them as it does on other mics, but this thing sounded great. I said I'd think about it, and contacted the vendor two - three days later to purchase it, but someone had beaten me to the punch.

I've been looking for one in similar condition ever since... Smile

I loved the audio clip /aircheck you shared! Thanks so much! How fun! I used to play those tunes when I was in radio too...and at that time they were fairly current.
