OK dumb question maybe. I've been happily plodding along with Sound Forge 8 and my E-mu 1212m card but now I need to play back and record at the same time. Does anyone know if I can do that with the 1212m and it’s PatchMix DSP mixer software and SF 8.0 which isn’t multitrack OR Cubase VST4 which is in my computer but which I’ve never used so I don’t know how it works?

I’ve been working under the “if it ain’t broke don’t fix it” protocol for ages. Which means I now find myself woefully ignorant Embarrassed about stuff that’s IN MY OWN COMPUTER that I never got around to messing with and really should have. Never had to do more than straight recording 'til now and now I need to reference an audio track as I record.

I knew I should have gotten that mac.

Ever so gratefully yours,
they didn't tell me I needed an engineering degree! melissa

Well don't feel too bad...I haven't looked much beyond what I needed to set up with my E-MU either Smile

The E-MU will do it no problem, but you need to be using a multi-track software package, and as you say, Sound Forge isn't.

I just tried it in Adobe Audition and it worked fine...opened an existing audio file, placed it into one track, armed another track for recording and off I went...

Presto!

thank you lou

just knowing the e-mu would do it gave me the will to mess with Cubasis. It worked! Now I just have to figure out how to save the voice file separately. how 'bout that, had a multi-track all along. I have to find a manual for this.

thx!

Cubase is a lot of fun once you learn how to use it. Trial and error, and there's an "unnoficial" Cubase users forum too.

I just realized what I have is Cubasis VST4 - I don't know the difference.
I'm Embarrassed to say how long it's been sitting in my computer without my ever having used it. I also have Wavelab lite. I think they both came with the sound card.

I can already see I'll be up half the night playing with it..
