Hi all

I am aware this isn't for everybody, so non Mac users, please feel free to leave the room now.

OK, are we settled?, right....mostly I have used an MBox as my PT input.....which I don't find terribly convenient. Last week I bought a Digidesign 002 rack, which at the moment is a very expensive paperweight. When I attach it to my studio machine which is a Mac Mini running 10.5.2, I get a weird error message about 'the hardware no being connected or in use by another application'. I have posted on the DUC and two possible solutions came back....loose wiring harness or that Leopard isn't supported by Digidesign yet. What is causing me problems is that PT LE 7.3.1 runs fine and I can use the MBox pefectly, but the 002 wont run at all. Anybody got any suggestions?

David,

Since the 002 isn't new gear, I'm guessing you bought it used? Is it possible that the unit itself if faulty? Do you have another system on which you could test it?

Hi Bob, you are quite right and yes indeed, it could well be faulty, I have no way of knowing. My only real option is to downgrade the studio mac and try it out. I'm a bit reluctant though.

Looks as though PT LE is not available to work yet with Leopard. Just Pro Tools HD on 8 core Mac Pro machines. I too am waiting for Leopard and PT LE to work together.

David, did the 002 come with the original installer disk? If so, on there you'll find a small aHobo Tounge called "Digitest". That will tell whether the 002 is faulty or not, it's supposed to work even when the host computer doesn't recognize it. Haven't ever had to try it though, so I can't tell you from experience.

LOL! I'm a little late to the party, but yeah (there is a group working on an "unofficial" fix, but IMO just wait).

Still, run digitest to make sure there aren't also HW issues (obviously use a compatible system), just like Edo stated.

David,

The same thing happened to me on my 002 rack a couple of weeks back. I installed Leopard on my Macbook, which wasn't used as my DAW. But I figured I'd give it a try so I installed Protools 7.1. Hooked it up and got the exact same message. I didn't look into it further, though, because my regular DAW is working fine (and I wasn't up for troubleshooting). Time to contact DigiDesign.

I forwarded the question to a Dutch Digidesign engineer... here's the excerpt with the info for this matter:

"To answer your other question Edo, tell your friend he needs the latest PT 7.4LE as well as appropriate cs-updateversion to run LE under OS-X Leopard. Even though it is not yet officially supported -we're almost there so I'm told-, we know of people running it smoothly on their systems. However, the Mac Mini is sort of still on the 'grey list', for we have had feedback from some betatesters and pro users that the experiences differ a lot. I'm sure the matter will be resolved shortly as well."

Thanks for all your replies.

Edo, you and your Digideisgn guy are immediately raised to total hero status, the upgrade to LE 7.4 cs 4 has got it working on both my Mac Book and on the studio Mac Mini.Smile cool

I am delighted, its a paperweight no longer. Now I'm going to have fun reworking the studio. Laugh
