In the world of confusing directions on copy, I got this spec on an audition today:
Quote: | DELIVERY GUY - A blue collar guy from the Bronx, probably in his 40’s or 50’s. He can be somewhat gruff (as long as he still sounds likeable and fun), but we should stay away from doing any kind of accent. |
Bronx with no accent? Gruff yet likeable and fun?
Sure. I know exactly what you mean.

Ha! I know which audition that was!!! I auditioned for the clerk!
And you're right. When I was envisioning the delivery guy talking, it was with accent and all. It's even written that way, as I recall. Rough. _________________ Caryn Clark... The Hip Chick Voice!

I was a little whelmed by the request fora Bronx guy with no accent.
What I loved best is his last line:

Response to client - I'll do it internationally bland as long as you get someone at your end to put the audio through a Dialect Filter. |

My slate was: "This is Bruce ...."
.... well heck, I might as well play it for you. I presume there's no law against it:
Bronx-Free Bronxing
I did the Bronx thing more with my eyes and gestures than my mouth. Hopefully they'll catch my intent.
And a fine kettle of fish that was.
