Hi there - normally the end client doesn't care how I pronounce things (as long as the phone number is right!), but since I don't like to offer up something less than perfect - please help me with the Colorado town of Arvada - I'm just training myself to cosistently say Nevada (like VAT) instead of Nevahda...and I think at one point I knew how this was pronounced, but I'm coming off 4 back to back sessions and have a ton of these names to finish up...and an MCA-I meeting to go to tonight and I think my brain just short-circuited...
R-Vay-dah? (like Ray?)
R-vah-dah (like the snooty pronunciation of Nevada) _________________ Playing for a living...

According to Wikipedia...
Arvada
It appears to sound more like R-va-dah.
Va sounds like the a in bad.
The a in da is a reduced vowel. _________________ "Bailey"

Merriam-Webster is a great source, IF they have the audio version which is hit and miss. Wikipedia's pronunciation guide is kind of weird too.
I have a long distance service that charges just 3 cents a minute so I'm happy to call the Chamber of Commerce or Mayor's office in oddly named towns.
I had to read the name of a port city in India, that I'd never heard of, for a television show. (for some reason the producer put the onus of correct pronunciations totally on me!) I tried calling a couple of public office kind of numbers in that city, but it was late at night over there and I didn't get an answer. So I called the Indian embassy in Washington. They were quite helpful.
If I'm ever wrong I can always say "Hey! I asked the Embassy!"
