Ironically, the first clock was developed to time the erm, "habits" of a particular Chinese ruler.
But for real kicks, take a peek at what the original translation of gymnasium means. There was a PBS documentary on that a while back I had to watch when I was in high school.
Nearly fell out of the chair laughing...
