I always liked the "on-location review" of an imaginary parade.

Deebs,
Great fun, but I was always warned against saying you were broadcasting from a particular place if you weren't actually there. According to at least two s I worked for, this is (was?) a big FCC no-no. _________________ Great Voice. Great Choice. For Voice Talking and stuff.

We did the imaginary parade once too. We had recorded sounds from a real Mardi Gras parade to run under us. For the people that actually showed up we had the station van out and interns giving out T-shirts and stuff so nobody got too pissed. _________________ Hart Voice Overs Blog

My station did a variation on the imaginary parade: an imaginary hot air balloon event. Complete with press releases sent out a few days before. The station had a very well respected news department who of course stayed completely out of it...it was never mentioned on our newscasts. The press release was issued by the Programming Dept. That should've been the first red flag.
Yes, people were mad! Especially the local TV station who went on the air with the news of the "balloon event." It's been nearly 15 years & if you mention that April Fool's hoax to any media person in town, they know exactly what you're talking about! _________________ Mary |

Back in 2003 we did a cricket on my morning show. A continuously looping CD with the sound of one single cricket chirping at random intervals at about -15db. Played the thing ALL morning. Under music and everything.
Folks would call in and ask us, "Did you know you guys have a cricket on your air?"
And we would respond with, "Gee, I don't hear it. Are you sure?"
One guy took the back off of his old console HI-FI in his shop looking for a cricket. Another gal pulled off the road and searched her truck for the damned thing.
We didn't reveal the gag until our show recyclers hit the air around 10:30.

Oooo... Chinese cricket torture! Awesome!
A station at which I once worked had an awful invasion of crickets one fall. It got so bad that you could hear it from the studio, so I ran a mic out to the studio door and ran them under my breaks all night long.
I sent the aircheck to an entomologist friend of mine and he said they were all chirping "How can I get started in radio?" and "Do you guys have any openings?" over and over... _________________ Greg Littlefield
