So I have the cold from hell and a big job to do. The decongestants and neti pot and nasal sprays have me breathing again, but I still sound nasal. At this point I'll try anything, so I bought these strips that go on your nose (they are an "external nasal dialator") and have a scratch and sniff decongestant (like Vicks). Lo and behold......they work, I don't sound as nasal. Yahoo! Good one to have in your bag of VO tricks. _________________ Enjoy life, this is not a rehearsal.

Thanks for the tip Kitzi...I'm sure that one will come in handy! Hopefully I won't need it, but then again...you never know. |

A British VO I was corresponding with once mentioned that drinking as much concentrated lemon juice as you could stand right before a session would clear up most of the congested sound of your voice.
I have been too chicken to try it. |

Chris's method sounds far too icky to try. I'd rather attempt nasal dilation. |

So I guess my suggestion of saline flush is out of the question, eh? That's my favorite, shoot as much saline as I can stand while inhaling, then shoot it out. Yummy! |

Bob, that's just a version of the neti pot that Kitzi mentioned in her post. I certainly use that method - I just wouldn't describe it the way you do ![Wink](images/smiles/wink.gif) |

Elaine,
I guess "tact" isn't one of my strong suits. Sorry about that! |

The pollen is destroying my and one of my partner's sinuses.
We usually get a quick fix with some Hot & Sour soup from the local Asian buffett and that gets us through the afternoon.
But one of our new clients recently opened a Mexican restaurant and he told us about his special seafood soup that cures anything. He particularly likes it when he has had a little too much to drink the night before. He says that soup with real, homemade chipotle sauce will not only clear your head, it will give your voice an additional 60db vocal range.
I will have to try it and let you know. |
