I was curious if the revamped Voice 123 had a noticable effect on anyone since the changeover in July. I've noticed that my auditions are opened more often, rated more often (almost 1/3 of the time), and I've landed more gigs. How about you? _________________ Tom Dheere - The "H" is Silent, but I'm Not!

Tom,
My experience has been that I'm booking about the same amount of work as I was before the change. I'm probably doing a slightly smaller number of auditions that previously. I've never much worried about anything other than booked work, because the rest is just mind taffy. _________________ Be well,

Feedback too non-specific, Tom. Care to share the numbers? As for me, the only thing that I've noticed is more "Budget to be defined", far too many jobs like that!
In the last year I've made $200 from Voice123. The ratings system and the search facility is a nonsense. I searched for female, middle-aged, British and top was Anna Vocino, the others were all American except one, she was a Canadian.
As far as I can tell the service both to producers and voices is getting steadily worse. Amongst a core of voices it has been successful in creating a culture of dependency. Anyone who earns four figures from the site is doing very well, any who claim to earn five figures probably also have a pet Unicorn. |

personally - i am auditioning FAR less than i did before smartcast. one reason is that i have been (happily) busy with solid gigs through my own marketing. i find that i am "rated" about 30% of the time ... mostly with 4s or 5s ... but due to (i guess) the un-rated auditions my stats indicate a rating of 66% ... i have not won a job since july from v123. before the switch i got 4 or 5 a month from open auditions ... now ... zip. mostly i use it for warm-up in the morning and only reply to jobs i think are interesting. _________________ "i know philip banks": todd ellis

I'm sure some of us here can recommend some good books to study to improve your craft. Have you considered taking some classes? Keep your chin up, lil fella! This is a tough business to break into! _________________ Jeff

ROTFLMAO!!!!!!
In 2007, I definitely made a decent four figures from the site.
Since July, I have been receiving more private leads (even though my percentile ranking was 35% until last month, I jumped up to 57%). Work was steady (meaning: one job per month) thru December, but January and February have dried up for me.
The other positive is that in the contacts I have made, a couple of them are steady clients. _________________ Caryn Clark... The Hip Chick Voice!

I've decided to give it another year (my c'reer not voice456) and if things don't happen for me then it's back to a life of petty crime.
I'm really pleased with the Adidas spot my agent got me. Well, technically it wasn't so much a spot as me going into a shoe shop and reading the label on a box of Adidas trainers while my agent swore at me on the phone. What's a "restraining order" anyone know? She going to get one for me, I've no idea how much to charge. |

And remember, if you ever read an Adidas box label again, even if you're not with that agent, you'll still have to pay him 10-15%. _________________ Jeff

I'll give some more specific feedback as per your request, Mr. Banks!
28% of the last 100 gigs I auditioned for were rated. The average rating was 3.75 stars. The majority of ratings was four stars. I have booked twelve gigs since the re-vamp, one of which paid me a monthly retainer to record phone prompts. I won't say the specific revenue earned, but for all of 2007 and so far in 2008 V123 clients have paid me well over $5000.
If I was foolish enough to compare my voiceover career to yours, Phillip, I have a backyard garden while you have a fully-grown orchard. V123 is helping me grow mine. And while doing so, I have to pull a few weeds and shoo away the crows (the shoddy projects) to protect my crop. A silly analogy, but V123 is a tool in my shed that seems to "bear fruit".
When it comes right down to it, I haven't the slightest idea why V123 works for me and not for others... _________________ Tom Dheere - The "H" is Silent, but I'm Not!

Thanks for that, makes for interesting reading and more importantly it proves that the system can work for some even though it is very clumsy. |

Philip,
I too do not mind being specific. For what it's worth my "stat rank" is 91 percent. That number means nothing if I'm not booking work.
In 2007 I booked work through Voice123.com with 13 different clients, some more that once, for a total of $19,482.24. For the record, I don't have any pet Unicorns; though I did have an imaginary friend when I was a wee lad in the farm country of Minnesota. _________________ Be well,

No unicorns here, either.
In 2007, V123 earned me about $19,200.....less than the estimable Bob Souer, that is.
After their vaunted changeover, I won zero jobs and declined to renew my membership.
After all, if I want to spend $295 to be insulted, ignored, and generally go hungry, I'd prefer an evening at a snooty French restaurant.
At least I get a bottle of good wine out of it.
