If you're signed up for a Skype number, and are paying the monthly, then calls to the USA are unlimited.
If you don't have the full package, then I believe the rate is $0.02 per minute. _________________ Hey! Whaddaya hear?

This is the calling rate as lsited on Skpe, I'm not sure if that is the rate from the UK in $ or whether it matters.....either way, its pretty cheap.
Dominican Republic $ 0.087 $ 0.100 with taxes
My mother lives in Scotland and my father in the south of France, Skype allows us to conference call (if we have to) and even normally saves a goodly amount of shekels each week when we have extended rants at the state of the world/economy/government/roads/weather etc. _________________ www.davidmonteath.com

Skype is fantastic and I save huge $$$ keeping up with friends and clients. If you listen to Leo Laporte's podcast T.W.I.T. all of the guests use Skype from all areas of the world. I've read of folks on this board using it for studio instruction while recording. |

Same here. I enjoyed "Call For Help" and "Screen Savers" which were two great computer help and info shows. He's getting ready to launch a weekly internet video show and has several podcasts and a weekly syndicated radio show.
Enjoy Skype! |

Hi,
Whilst we're on this subject can anyone recommend a good headset or phone to use with Skype?
Thanks

I use a one ear piece and mic boom with Skype and it works great. It came with my cordless telephone. I've seen $20 headphones like this at places like Office Max/ Depot and Staples. |

Can you use Skype while other internet functions are running?
For those of you who use it for direction during a session, I would assume you would have to be running off a different computer?

I'm no expert, but this is the way it worked for me. Yes, I used another computer. It wasn't as much a horsepower issue as it was routing their instructions to the headphones without having them be recorded. I have done some podcast interviews using Skype while recording a wav file on the same computer with no issues. |

Thanks Bill,
I figured that, at least with my setup, that Skype would conflict with my interface. I also get goofy noises when the wifi is engaged anyway, so I wondered how that would work.
I'm impressed with the sound quality of the guests from LaPorte's podcast.
I imagine a separate computer using a good USB mic, with a headphone jack sitting next to your recording mic might be a good setup?

I use the same machine and have never had a problem, client dials into my Skype number and can hear my output while I record.
Very simple. _________________ www.davidmonteath.com
