In a 16 minute 43 seconds session I waxed lyrical about ......

Toshiba 32C3030D & 32C3035DB
Sony KDL46W2000 & KDL32S3000
SAMSUNG PS50Q97HD,LE32R88BD & LE32M86BD
PANASONIC TX32LXD7 & TXLMD70

A TV session, yes ALL 9 are TVs.

Apparently the blacks are now REALLY black. Very important or so I am lead to believe.

Actually, that's not as silly as it might seem. In large-format theaters that are using digital video projectors, video black is a big issue. It relates to the brightness of the screen the picture is being projected onto as well as what the projector can deliver. Video black is really just a dark gray...

I do a lot of writing for documentaries for digital video domed theaters (aka planetariums) which ARE facing the "black isn't quite black" syndrome in video projection. It is, in fact, a major selling point of one of the equipment manufacturers that cater to that market.

"It's like...how much more black could this be? And the answer is none. None more black."

Agreed! One of the shortcomings of LCDs is black isn't black. Plasma and LCD still have a bit of work before they are as good as a tube. That's why my wide screen HDTV is a CRT.

To pay for all this technology one needs a good credit card! 6.30pm UK time we travel to New York for a chat with those nice people from Mastercard.

I don't plan my days like this, they just sort of naturally dovetail.
