i got an email reply to a craigslist post to which i responded regarding a producer looking for VO:
I am impressed with the quality of your voice and experience
and I wanted to explain to you a little about the project before I sent
your voice sample to my client for review.
This project is a low budget project; the client will use it for internal
purposes only, as a training manual for their employees, but they have
mentioned that they will have more projects down the road that would need
the same type of work and who ever does the voice recording for this one
will surly work on the upcoming projects.
The project is a 15-20 minute voice narration on a script that is already
created. I expect the whole thing will take no more than 2 hours to record.
Our budget for the voice over talent is $100.00.
Before I send your voice sample to my client for reviewing I want to make
sure that you understand and agree to the basic scope of the project.
P.S. Even though we had already planned to do the actual recording ourselves
I was wondering how much would you charge us to make the recording giving
the fact that you have all the equipment at your disposal.
Please let me know.
i'm really exercising restraint with the snarky goodness.
haven't replied yet.

Diane,
Among the many things about you that I admire, your restraint in such situations may be the most admirable. _________________ Be well,

Ha ha, I got the same thing, Diane! Apparently the guy is out there sending form letters trying to find anyone who will do it for $100. _________________ Jeff

jeff--seriously, will you respond? because i look at this as an opportunity to, shall we say, inculcate?
they've got a completely low, nearly zero budget for VO, had planned to do it themselves, but don't have the equipment, want to know what it would cost above and beyond the $100 for voice, for my studio use, time, and edit chops. any studio around here will charge at least one-and-a-half times more than i do, for studio time alone.
i wish a LOT more people were smarter. _________________ sitting at #8, though not as present as I'd like to be. Hello!

ugh. he posted again, raised the rate, and says it's very possible this could lead to more. i loathe when that's said or implied; there's no certainty in that!
Need a female voice talent (narration) for corporate training production. 20 minute script. Friendly, expressive, but not excessively so. Pays $150 for 1-2 hrs recording time. Additional money negotiable if talent produces the recording.
The voice chosen by the client may well be chosen for future projects by this same client. _________________ sitting at #8, though not as present as I'd like to be. Hello!

I replied last night with my rate (which was low) and asked how close he could come to that. Awaiting a reply I'm sure I won't get.
He did, however, view my page (and presumably listened to my reels). I can tell that much from the referring URL in my stats. _________________ Jeff

This is one which will set you off;
FROM GURU.com
Description: This is a very Simple Voice-Over anyone can do!
(This is a great opportunity for people starting out)
We are currently producing a comedy radio program, and we need your voice.
The program is making fun of infomercials. We require several people, both male and female, from all different countries to provide testimonials for the infomercial. If you don’t know what an infomercial is, they run late at night on television usually selling home gym equipment, diet pills, skin products, and in between the selling they put real people in the infomercial (who are often Paid) to give a testimonial and say what a great product it is, and how many hundreds of pounds they lost in just 3 days.
Now if you are wondering how this is going to affect you professionally don’t worry! You will not be using your real name in the infomercial. We will give you a character name; there is no association with you to the product. The product you will be promoting is NOT controversial, demeaning, racial or politically incorrect in any shape or form, because that would not be funny. We have not finalized the scripts yet, and you will get to approve the script before you do the voice over.
So what do we need from you!
Simply to speak in your normal speaking voice for about 10-15 seconds.
What You Will Need!
You will need to be able to record your voice, and save it as an MP3 file. You do not need to record this in a studio. A quiet room will do. The recording needs to be good quality, but it does not need to be Studio Quality.
If you would like to participate and have a lot of fun, reply back with:
- Your Name:
- Whether your Female or Male
- Your Accent and which region
- How much you would like to quote.
Note: We will be taking the lowest quote, as this is a simple voice over that anyone can do.
The best part? No copy, no nada and they want the lowest bidder cause "this is a simple voice over that anyone can do".
God love 'em, no one else will.
I think I broke my keyboard hitting "delete" as fast as I did.... ROFLMAO
Toodles

DB, I'm shocked and offended. You shouldn't call people names. Let them refer to themselves that way. At least Denis Leary was smart enough to recognize what he is.

a friend of mine turns that big tease about future projects around on the perps, states his rate, and politely answers something like, "...but i may offer attractive discounts for additional projects in the future."
i love being around witty people. _________________ rowell gormon

My favorite is on Craigslist all the flippin' time:
"We're developing a sitcom and we need actors. No pay, but you get the chance to be on the real show if we get picked up by Fox!"
Yeah right. Don't they know that if Fox happens to pick up their crappy sitcom, they'll get UNION actors? _________________ Jeff

The arrant naivete of some "producers" never fails to amaze me.
It would never occur to me to offer such low pay to professionals... _________________ Charter Member: Threadjackers Local 420 |
