|
|
Hey there all,
Can anybody provide some guidance related to phone patch. I'm trying to find the most economical unit for v/o, but I can only find info on JK Audio stuff. There has to be other companies out there making a decent phone patch unit.
Obviously I'm talking analog, not ISDN. I'd be dreaming if I thougth I could afford an ISDN unit at this point.
Any input or advice would be appreciated.

Hi Brian,
Try Broadcast Supply West. Look for Telos-1 or Gentner.
Cheaper..you can try Ebay and search those names..or look for a Symetrix TI-101.

Brian, I recently bought a JK Audio THAT-2, and even more recently returned it. After a lot of fiddling I realised it needs an amplifier, and I thought I would not spend more money on an amplifier, but rather purchase one that has the amp built in. So far I have not moved on that as other studio matters have muscled ahead of that in line.
Harlan Hogan has a chapter on phone patches in his book, The Voice Actor's Guide to Home Recording (a very useful tome). He mentions the MicTel by CircuitWerkes http://www.broadcastboxes.com
the Comrex TCB1A http://www.comrex.com
and
the Excalibur HC-1
and he mentions Broadcast Supply Worldwide as a good source

Let me know what you end up doing; I'll be interested. |

The JK Audio Auto-Hybrid is a good one box solution--simple to set up and does the trick---Gentner no longer makes simple hybrid couplers |

I got a Symetrix TI-101 from Our Own Micazon last week and haven't even had time to plug it in yet.

DB! You're the one!!! I asked Micazon about it just a couple of days too late!
Oh well, you snooze you lose! Let me know how it works for you.
Actually if you want to test it out I'd be really interested to call into you and hear the audio quality. Let me know if you'd mind doing that.

Boy howdy-- I jumped on that TI-101 right away.
The handset/headphone thing is a drag and I get enough clients wanting in on a non-ISDN session to warrant the equipment.
I'd love to try it out with you-- thanks!
Let me get through this weekend. I'm in a play that just opened Wednesday night and I really can't think of anything "extra" at the moment. _________________ DBCooperVO.com |

Getting mine up and running has been on my list all this week.
It has been a wild week.
Perhaps tomorrow. _________________ DBCooperVO.com |

For the super inexpensive "phone patch" go to Radio Shack and they have a little ditty called the "Mini Recorder Control". Play with this 'toy' - it works!
It's portable, easy to operate and very inexpensive.

If anyone still needs a decent phone patch, I have a clean Symetrix TI-101 in good working order that I no longer need that's just taking up rack space. I retired it early last year when I went ISDN. If anyone wants to make me an offer before I throw it on eBay next week, just e-mail me. |

Agreed, I purchased one recently and am quite happy with the results. |

Cool...that was the unit Bruce mentioned when I posted a similar question a few months back and I was sorta waiting to hear if more folks had something to say about it...it sounds like a winner to me. |
