This is my first foray into radio imaging. I only have 1 station right now. Thoughts?

#1. I like your voice, and your vocal quality. It's straight-ahead, unaffected and pretty strong. I can't hear what you're saying in spots, though, sometimes because of the other audio shtuff going on, sometimes you're not clear enough: The first time you say the word "means" I wasn't sure if you said "means" or "meets". I needed to hear "shorter commercial breaks" 3 times to understand it.
But I must tell you again, your sound is really refreshing! I like it a lot.

#2. Are you producing these?
I really like the beat-keeping in the first piece, and the 2nd's repeat riff.
In the first segment, there is a change of tunes that has a really peculiar, dissonant interval, right after "I want to swim away but don't know how. . ."
At first I thought Ick! but I actually wonder if it's not a really wicked sharp idea, because it made me want to go bak and listen again. If it were on the air, I'd be interested to hear it again because I'd want to see how I felt about it when I heard it again.

I agree... I may re-record these on home mic and take some extra time... this batch done on work mic and was rushed for the station (needed yesterday.. you know)

Alas nay! These are "insert your voice guy here" pieces that the station subscribes to. My job was to voice and "insert myself here".

Thanks!

I agree with Deirdre, your vocal track gets buried beneath the efx and music.
Try some compression and some limiting on your vocal track to make it stand out over the rest of the bed.
Content sounds very nice... good luck to you.
If you need any help with anything let me know.

Hi Dave,

Like what you did. Only one comment, and this is discretionary (also, my opinion, and my opinion only); are you able to put a little more 'tude (attitude) in the voice? I know you have it in you.

(Again, my personal opinion) I was listening for a little "edge". I was hoping for something which offered character and emotion; the imaging demo is very nice, however, I wanted more.

The Imaging voice artist for a station should set the mood or tone of the entire entity known as KXYZ am and fm. The Imaging Voice is the one thing which remains constant and is the BRAND IDENTITY for KXYZ; this one voice sets the image of how the listeners will view, listen, hear, feel - about the radio station.

YOU must sell the brand with this one voice artist... you must BE the life blood of the radio station. YOU are the BRAND.

I am not speaking of or addressing the production value as I feel each person and station have their own ideas, concepts, and values.

You have the chops, now use them.

Toodles

Thanks Frank... more to keep in mind as I re-record at home tonight.

Yowser!

Now that got my attention! I told ya you had it in you. This new version of your imaging demo contains the "brand" for "The Peak One-Oh-Four point One".

You have character, emotion and "the sound" for the radio station.

I am proud to know you Dave... and jealous.

Toodles

I'm so not the expert at this, at all. But, I wanted to chime in that I agree with DB about that "change of tunes that has a really peculiar, dissonant interval, right after "I want to swim away but don't know how. . ." ".... it's toward the beginning of the demo... it's really jarring to me.... the whole thing, in my mind, when they play those songs is I tend to pick it up and sing along right away (which, btw, I must be the target demo for this station... love every one of those songs)... and at that song change I can't b/c it's difficult to tell what the song is and it just sounds off.

Other than that, I loved hearing the difference between the first and the last take.... you sound awesome!!!!!!

Thanks. Now that these are done, I'm going to get started on more. I won't be producing them, just providing dry voice.

Dave,

As a fellow radio prod guy i've gotta say... these sound really good!

i would agree that a little more attitude would really give them more punch. and to lower the beds under your voice a little bit, but most station's processing should take care off all of that.

again great job.

LOVE LOVE LOVE 'em. Levels are spot on, mix is tight and refreshingly new. However, you mention its the best of the 80's, 90's, and Now...and all I heard was music from NOW! Is this is just a sample? If so, you're hired for the next big Freedom Radio Countdown... lol! Shocked

This was just the first batch... and the imaging library is a cookie-cutter package licensed by the station, not me. I'm just going to be providing the voice from this point on. I have a bunch more to do since the station will be changing out all their old imaging.

Thank you EVERYONE for your input. Especially DB and Frank. Can I put you guys on my next resume as my mentors? Wink

Next... a sample for a country station. I haven't landed the gig, but an old friend of mine is letting me use their name for demo-sake.
