Hi Gang,
I am looking for my first pair of powered monitors that will be portable and still give decent quality to use as reference monitors at home while recording.
I have a budget set @ $450 for these....
I was looking at the KRK Rokit 5 and the M-Audio Bx5a.
Any thoughts, moans, groans, gripes, or complaints? LOL

Thanks for your input!
Dean

Heavy,

IMHO~
I'd have to say you're on the right track with the KRK Rokits for that...However, save up for the KRK RP8... a friend of mine has them in a studio in Chicago and they sound very good for the room he has them set up in.

Another comparable choice in your price range would be the Wharfedale DP8.2A Diamond Pro- very nice clean sound. The sound you get from either of these monitors heavilly depend on the room you're listening in.

While I'm not anything of the sort of audio guru that Steve is, I have to say I've been thrilled with my M-Audio BX5a monitors.

Hello All,

I own a pair of M-Audio Bx5's and I found them to be very usable monitors for what I was doing. They have served me well for the time I have used them. They are accurate and detailed with great bass response. Even from such a small speaker!!

I think I might have paid $500 for both about two years ago.

Since then, my listening skills have improved and I have become a better engineer. I am learning to hear and that is the most important concept there is.

I think it's important to have speakers that allow you to work hard. Speakers that will yell at you to really push you to change things and make choices.

peace
