VO-BB - 19 YEARS OLD!

Hi everyone,

I'm new here. Smile

I'm over on the voiceoversavvy board. I'm just starting to really get things together to start pursuing voice over work here in LA. I've had some local gigs and auditions already that I found out about online, but nothing too major. I primarily do my work now via my home studio.

Anyways, enough rambling. I had some demos created this week as well as had my website redone. I'd love to hear you're input. My experience really likes in character work (video games, audio dramatizations, and animation) so I know the commercial demo needs the most work. I'm taking a class at Kalmenson & Kalmenson to help out w/ that next month.

I have to say I really like your website. You'd do well to have your designer take the code I posted in the Learn forum to get rid of the unsightly "Click to activate this control" message on IE.

But aside from that, I'm partial to clean white backgrounds, which you have. The color scheme doesn't scream of first time designer and the shoe is a nice touch that goes well with your slogan of "A voice that fits". And it isn't a microphone, so you get points there.

I like the website as well. I do have some minor reservations but only depending on how you're marketing yourself. When I see the site I think elegance and class. If you want to focus on animation you may want to modify it some. But if the image you want to project is what I mentioned then I think you nailed it. Smile

Yup, very nice in general!

Definitely agree with Jeff that you should abstract your Flash so that people don't have to click twice / see the ugly border.

Nice indeed. But color me ignorant. I saw RESUME and thought of it as a button to resume playing a demo after perhaps pausing it. A click on it confirmed that it was your resumé, but it did give me...pause... Wink

Thanks everyone. My husband actually designed it. He's a pro, but he doesn't work with flash as much. I'll be sure to give him your comments, especially the click to activate button thing. Thanks Jeffrey. We were going for "cute and sexy", though yes, I do hope to do more animation work. The color scheme was supposed to help with the cute factor.

These are my first set of demos. I'm hoping to get them redone in the next few months, but I wanted something to get me buy until then. Smile

I'd really appreciate your feedback on the demos as well.

Lose the slate. The MVO is hoping that people will ask about him, not you .... The demo is about you. Just a thought

I agree about losing the slate. I also would consider losing the resume, but there might be some who disagree on that point. One doesn't want to necessarily highlight that one's experience is scant (so far). A list of recent credits would be good instead, or maybe testimonials from clients, especially of if they are national and/or prominent and/or prestigious.

Otherwise, I'm on the belief that one should just let his or her demo represent the level of work on is capable of producing, and then add all those prestigious credits as you go along. Smile

Am inclined to agree. Resume used to sell oneself needs to have WOW Factor 10 entries and that means instant recognition.

Same with testimonials, as far as I'm concerned.
Testimonials are just so much typing unless I recognize the name of the speaker or the studio.

Yep. DB is absolutely correct. I have to admit that I giggle when I see VO sites with testimonials from the local plumber who is very satisfied with his voicemail greeting. Laugh

I was told by others to leave the resume up there because even though yes, I have scant experience so far as I've just started...it does show I'm not a complete newbie. I am kind of on the fence about it. I really appreciate all your input.

As far as the slates, I'm assuming you're referring to the double slate on the commercial demo. So just remove the second slate?

Again, really appreciate all the advice. I'm pretty new to going pro, just been doing this for fun for years.
