A few weeks back I got an email from SC...they had listened to my demos and really liked what they heard. Now I just had to make it thru one more decision-maker.
It's been a couple of weeks now and I haven't heard anything. Has anyone else been thru a similar expereince?
I'm beginning to think that I probably didn't make the final cut.

I don't know what's going on with those guys.
I know Chris White is a true believer, but I haven't heard jack-all from them in over a year.

I wonder if I'm still listed?

I couldn't for the life of me get them to update the demos they were using for me— they took my 60-second demo, cut it into its individual parts and put each of those elements in a separate category.

Ye gods!

I did see your name listed Deeb. Didn't listen to the reels though.

Chuck, I don't know if it's a problem just with my computer, but I visited your site and I can't find any active links to demos. In the upper left section, there's alot of overlapping info, which may be obscuring links. I've tried both Firefox and Safari, and this is what I see there:

Anybody else, or is it just my computer?

Chuck, I have the same problem w/ your site.

Dunno about SC. They sent an audition packet last year but I never did it. Couldn't get past the non-union exclusivity thing...

Thanks Guys. The site was built to work with IE at 800X600 or higher.
I know if you do try to reduce the window in IE you'll see the overlapping.

About to do the yearly update on the site anyway so I'll bring up your comments to my web designer.

Appreciate the feedback!

Studio Center has put a roof over my head since 1979. I was Creative Director until 1993 when I went freelance voice over/copy writer/producer. Then I couple of years ago they hired me to run the Las Vegas operation until they found someone better--which wasn't hard--and then went back on the freelance roster.

So, yeah, I've been pretty much wrapped up with them for 28 years. It's been a good ride for me. Some people chafe at the exclusivity deal, some dig it. Depends on what you like to do: if you really enjoy the marketing side of your career then maybe SC isn't your cup of tea. If all you really want to do is work, then you should consider them.

One of the reasons SC has worked out for me is that when not doing vo's I have other pursuits (working freelance for ad agencies, doing TV work and we opened a dog daycare a couple years ago).

Yeah, it sounds weird but the ad agencies REALLY like this. They can listen to snipits of everybody in the HARD SELL catagory then click on their favorites to hear more.

And they can be glacial in updating them. But everything seems to be done by auditions these days, so it looks as though demos are increasingly losing their value.

Chuck, the problem is that your designer used CSS to position the paragraph that's supposed to go over the main title bar with relative positioning, using the top-left corner of the page as the 0,0 point.

With ANY size window other than the intended size, it'll look incorrect, whether bigger or smaller. I'm viewing at 1680 x 1050 and it's in the wrong place in IE7, too.

DB, I've been getting work from them, but I do occasionally have to remind them I'm around, especially if I'm not getting auditions on a regular basis. I think they must lose my email address or something. A call usually gets things back on track. Hope that helps.

Kitzie, I always include them in my book-out/outage e-mail, so SOMEONE is being reminded I exist.

I don't even know who is there any more.

In practical terms, what does Studio Center's non-union exclusivity agreement mean?

Matt,

That if you sign with them as a non-union talent, you agree to work only for Studio Center and no one else while the terms of your contract remain in effect.

So, to clarify (you'll forgive my density, I was in the Marines Wink ) if one were to sign up with them, one would no longer need to market their talents and one would have to turn away clients (current and potential) requesting one's services? If I've misunderstood, forgive me. But, if not, boy, there had better be a HUGE upside.

Matt,

Look at what Chris White posted earlier in this thread, from which I've quoted here. There's your upside, and assuming you can deliver the good when called upon (no reason to think you can't) it is huge.
