OK....
Well Here goes:
Up till now I've been happy & clients have been happy with my VERY simple set up of:
Mic to PreSonus Firebox to Laptop
No noise, sounds fine.....great

BUT: I just got my first Phone Patch gig (end of the week I think...client still working up script) and so I just got out the Alesis MultiMix8USB mixer and the JK Audio AutoHybrid that I invested in just before Vegas.
I'm having trouble
Here's the set-up:

I have the Mic into the PreSous into the Alesis Mic1
I have the JK "Caller" into Alesis Mic2 (via XLR)
I have the JK "Send" into Alesis Mic3 (via XLR)

Like someone else here who said that they were technically savvy to a point...I've reached that point.

I just need the director to hear me and me not record them. I remember Rob Ellis's suggestion of recording in stereo and then taking my audio to a mono track...and that's fine BUT although I can hear the person on the phone, THEY can't hear me (I had my husband call several times as a test & I could hear him, but he couldn't hear me....)

Frankly I always got confused with AUX & BUS pots so if someone has a similar set-up/mixer....can you help me make this work?

...it could be the 4 hours in the ER this morning, but my brain is fried.
Thanks!...and I did check the archives and I know that I could/should have just gone with an easy headset solution, but too late to return stuff now it has been way over the 30 days....gotta make this work...

I basically need help with what to pot-up, what to pot down!...I know this may be basic for you experts...but hey I admit it...this part is new to me!

If someone knows & it's easier for me to call you on my dime & have you walk me through it, that would be great!

Oh:: I'm using an XP laptop with SoundForge or Vegas

Thanks so much!...time to go dream of phone patch configurations! zzzzzzzz Rolls Eyes

Liz

I'm in business!
With the help of Mike over @ JK Audio I am up & running!
YAY!

I'll be writing everything down (Hey...I admit it, I need to do that so that I can re-create this!) so if anyone ever needa the Phoen Patch configuration for an Auto Hybrid into an Alesis MultiMix8 USB mixer, just give a shout!

Also, has anyone used Skype as a phone patch software?

A while back, I used Skype to talk to producers in England while I recorded the session here in my studio.
I had iPod Earbuds plugged into my computer's sound out to hear them, they heard me thru my laptop's built-in mic. I had my studio headphones on over the earbuds; they were monitoring out of a mixer. I heard myself just fine, and I heard them just fine without having any possiblity of bleed into the mic.

Very cool setup!

Thanks Deirdre. So, if I understand you... You recorded actually into 2 mics? the built-in in the laptop for skype and then into your studio mic for the actual recording?

No- I only recorded my studio mic.
The Skype link was just the "phone-patch" call setup that let the producers hear the session and direct it.

We kept a record of the takes and I sent them the whole session.
