I was doing a voiceover session today with Shaggy at Another Country in Chicago for DDB's Sea World, he mentioned this blog. I wanted to hear Schatner boxxing in that idiot client. So I logged on and joined. I've read a lot of stuff here today. Do you guys actually talk about the VO biz? I'm not seeing much on here about the stuff I do everyday for a living. Am I missing something? -Pat Duke |

Give yourself a little time, Monsieur Duke. There are over 32 thousand posts here. I'm sure you'll find something that makes you feel at home. _________________ DBCooperVO.com

With over 32,000 messages served, there's one fixed up just the way you like it!
I'll have to admit that when I first logged on, there was a lot more "shop" talk than "coffee" talk and it's all archived here. After the first year, I noticed that some of the same ground would be covered more than once (usually with a polite "We've discussed this here" reply and a link).
And this isn't a blog. It's a community complete with free exchange of ideas that don't deal with Mac vs. PC gang warfare. The pros and newbies find equal footing here. That's a big part of how I ended up hanging out here while I put the stuff I've learned from books and workshops into action. _________________ Greg Littlefield

Pat - check out the Gear section for tech stuff. The actual VO Biz talk - marketing, agents, auditioning, trends, union talk is scattered in and around what has become basically a huge extended family of voiceover folk of all levels. If you have a topic that you'd like to discuss - lay it out there - you'll get response. If you want it to be sort of private - post it to Entres Nous which is just for registered board members.
With the recent VOICE 2007 conference in Vegas we have a lot more folks on the board and lots more posts - I can't keep up with all the posts myself between work and sleep (Yes, you guys, I need my sleep - I'm getting up there!).
Luv' ya - mean it.... _________________ Playing for a living...

Hey...the voice of KFC! Pat, you are the reason I am in need of many hours on the treadmill
Welcome aboard...this place is a virtual "variety bucket" of VO info and people just trying not to talk about "work" at times. _________________ Ben

Welcome to the VO-BB, Pat. As you've heard... this is a great place with an unlimited supply of knowledge and wisdom to share.
Your new members kit will be mailed out as soon as your check clears.
(Ooops!... I forgot to tell DB about the new idea we came up with while she was at VOICE 2007.)

OH!
So that's what all those spraycans of keyboard cleaner were doing in the mailroom.

Pat,
Welcome. The best thing to do is ask questions. If you have a discussion thread you would like to start, no matter what the topic, it will get answered here. As others have mentioned, the archives are a wealth of information, but I find I learn the best just by asking.
Hardly any threadjacking goes on here. _________________ Try to imagine a world where there is no such thing as hypothetical situations.

Pink dog? Hey, that's a Polar Bear!
The Charlotte Checkers are into the second round of the playoffs (minor league hockey team that I do the announcing for) so I have to keep that avatar for good luck. I need to find a picture with their regular uniforms though instead of when they were doing a special breast cancer awareness thing.
